Per the recent Reddit AMA, Wassym talked about the low voltage system for R2
WassymRivian: In R2, we have improved our High Voltage and Low Voltage architecture to minimize the dependency on the 12V battery by reducing sleep power draw and increasing the capacity of the mini-DCDC converter. This allows any minor power draw during sleep to be supported by the High Voltage battery and minimizes cycling of the 12V battery and prolonging its life.

That’s is awesome. I remember Tesla forums back in 2016 - 2020 where it was like every other post at the car being dead due to the 12V.

Same thing is currently going on with Rivian forums…

Tesla moved to Lithium Ion 12V though. Hope Rivian’s solution is just as good!

Still the nature of the beast with lead acid. Going to have to replace them, but at least they are cheap. The Tesla LFP low voltage will far outlast a lead acid so you get a lot of long term reliability that way. Different approaches.

But it's nice to see that Rivian is at least making lead acid viable in this car. Everything people said here about high cycling is accurate and validated by Wassym's comments.
