Having used Grok & now the Rivian assistant - Rivian is better it on any vehicle controls, playing media, etc; Grok is better for navigation, getting info about stuff & is more conversational - it’s way faster too.

Interesting that both companies picked a very similar default voice, not just in tone, but manner as well, to use

Does Tesla have a in-car voice control system that lets you control some of the car functions and it doesn't involve Grok?

Yea, ‘Hey Tesla’ is completely different then Grok & controls the vehicle. The ‘hey Tesla’ controls are ok at best (tbf they may have improved but I stopped trying to use awhile ago it as I just got annoyed) The only Grok integration I’ve noticed is with navigation, but I will also say it’s very good at that & giving recommendations & such

I haven’t used Grok yet in my wife’s Tesla, but from what I understand it’s a separate app launched via steering wheel button.

This is a big deal…

- Tesla’s Grok in the car is not connected to the car’s controls. It is a generic LLM. Rivian made it ahead of Tesla to have the native AI assistant with full vehicle access (waiting to test!). Kudos Rivian team. This is also the first time people will realize how a CarPlay/AndriodAuto and native AI experience start to break away (in favor of Rivian’s decision…). Exciting times.

So far the vaulted ssistant has been unable to sneer a single question about the car. It’s one response to anything is “see the users manual”. I even asked for the current altitude as we’re we’re going over mountains. No clue. Switched back to Alexa, who can at least put things on my shopping list!

What else have you asked Rivian Assistant to do? I haven’t tried asking for the altitude, but will give it a shot.

I’m currently parked in my driveway. I asked about my altitude and RA told me it was 0. Home Assistant says my altitude is -36ft.

I couldn't remember how to unlock the dock and so I asked RA. It answered my question and pulled up the relevant section in the owner's manual. Pretty cool..

I thought you were gonna say it unlocked the dock.

I was driving at the time and the dock can't be unlocked while driving. I doubt it would work when parked, though.
