Got my new Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 tires installed today. I didnt realize how loud the Pirelli's were getting until I had the absolute quiet from the Michelin's.

Busy day at the house thou. Wives Toyota developed a brake issue. Someone stole the Catalytic Converter off my Kia. Took my Ford in for an oil change, and the tech said I need to do something about my Transmission, as there are metal filings in the fluid. I think he was trying to pull a fast one personally.

I think this latest update is likely the best I have seen to date...

The main cluster now showing the map is a major upgrade. Now I dont have to look at the computer trying to figure out if its a car, truck, motorcycle, semi, person, or just a general spaz out.

I use the Kneel mode, but before I move the truck, I always put the truck back in standard mode. Prior to this update, I would press the button to put it into standard, and it would put itself back into Kneel within a second. No matter how many times I pressed it, it would do this. Now it acts like it should.

Now I have a new problem... Going down interstates that ADAS has always worked on, I turn on ADAS, and about 1/10th a mile later, it does the thing about the road not being mapped. Its annoying, but its still useable.

Drove by the Automotive Rail Yard last night here in Northern Denver. They have 8 R1's sittin on their back lot that are all pretty jacked up! Will see if I can get a pic. I can say 1 of them is in Rivian Blue.

Sorry about the grainey pic. I was sitting on the highway in traffic, and the lot is quite a ways away, so had to zoom in.

So over the weekend, I was considering trading in my Rivian R1S for something else. Got offers on trades from $51k up to $64k.

A little back story to the thought, I have some serious back problems, L1 thru S2 is bulging, and I can no longer hunch over to get in the Rivian. It physically hurts to get in and out of my Rivian... and it hurts a lot

So I went out to see what the other options are... I wish I could try sitting in a R2.

Anyways... It didnt go well..

These are the ones that had the same, or worse, problem as I do with the Rivian
Ford Ranger
GMC Canyon
Chevy Colorado
Nissan Frontier
Honda Ridgeline
Toyota Tacoma
Toyota 4-Runner
Kia EV6
Hyundai Ionig 6
Hyundai Ioniq 5
Volvo - ALL (Me not fitting in the EX90 was saddening)
Genesis - ALL
Infinity - ALL except the full size SUV
Polestar cars

These ones are better than the Rivian (for seating purposes only)
Kia EV9
Hyundai Ioniq 9 (its just to ugly of a vehicle to own)
Ford F150 (Lightning or Gas)
Dodge Durango
Ram 1500
Nissan Titan
Ford Maverick
Hyundai Palisade
Kia Telluride
Chevrolet Blazer/Honda Prologue (same car)

With my back issues, the back massagers in the Ford F150 Platinum and EV9 GTLine really intrigue's me.
The Chevy Blazer in the SS trim also really intrigue's me. The one that I test drove had red leather interior, which is a automatic no. But they also come in black and grey.

Still gotta try the Lexus models, Chevy/GMC Full Size Trucks, Infinity QX80/Nissan Armada, Polestar 3.

6000 miles in on my Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 tires. My kWh has gone down a tiny bit, from a lifetime average of 2.14 when I put the tires on, to a lifetime average of 2.11 now. I think the .03 drop is more from the winter then the tires thou.

Went to the block party over the weekend.

I do like the R2, the doors fit me better than the R1... But the seat is to small again, smaller than the R1. I mean it was expected, but I was hopeful.

2 of the 3 units on display had broken glove boxes, or what the guy called "tempermental".

The Catalina Blue is nice, not a fan of black. Have to do a test drive, and see if its a possibility, if it is, I would be ordering the Borealis.

Both units pictured have BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A tires. I think these are the 20's?

Got a lot of things done this week...

Got my R1S scheduled for more service work.
I have Half-Shaft knocking on the front and rear on the drivers side. I cant tell on my passenger side.
Still have a dash rattle
Air compressor either cant keep up, or I have a air leak. It can take miles for the air system to air up the suspension in the morning.
I am also having a harsh steering wheel vibration during acceleration

And then on my way home from work today, I had a extremely minor fender bender... I was not at fault, and the other guy ran.

Still waiting on the police to finish writing the report. I ended up having a 1" x 1/4" scatch down to the metal on my fender above the white wrap around light, and some scuff on the black metal bumper. Luckily thats it. But still want the paint fixed.

So a follow up to this. For now I am staying with my R1S. I very, VERY, nearly pulled the trigger on a 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum, and a 2026 GMC Sierra Denali EV. Finding one in my exact option config was the hardest part.

Found the Ford in Jacksonville Florida, had been sitting on their lot for 331 days. I made an offer from the internet pricing, and they came back with a price higher than the internet pricing. Uhm... NO! They would not budge. I asked them why, and they told me they arent worried about pricing for a out of state buyer, as their is no chance for repeat business.

Found the GMC in Little Rock Arkansas, was a demo unit, kept going back and forth on pricing. Got it to the pricing I wanted, or very nearly anyways. Was driving to CarMax to sell them my R1, and got a call from the salesman that it sold internally to an employee.

I dont mind the idea of going to a gas vehicle, but at the current gas prices, I will still with an EV.

So for at least another 18ish months, thats where the story of my selling the R1S ends. I cant even say that I am very interested in the R2. It just reminds me way to much of a Ford Escape Hybrid. Its just to small for my needs.

I will say that I have come to the complete conclusion that I should have bought the R1T over the R1S. But hindsight is always 20/20.
