Into the future! At some point I'll use the equity to buy one.
Few weeks ago I bought 1000 shares at $14.00 a share. To be fair the price dropped to about $12.65 in two days as not to brag, but the recent move up makes me feel better. Nice little trade thus far.
THis is my first post actually so I'll introduce myself as a very content happy 2019 Lexus LS500 owner with right at 60,000 miles on the odo. With an eye of the future and not an early EV adopter I a a patient investor and thought I'd have some fun with this.
If Rivian surges in price its likely due to it being quality product, service and standing on solid finanical footing. If not the cars themselvs wil depreciate badly making my investment not such a risk.
I am smittien with the R2 but not in the market anytime soon unless I can get a great deal on one. LIke for $14,000? LOL....
If this happens it will be. few years perhaps and not a straight line up.
Wish me luck!.
And good luck to those new R2 owenrs who are brave to be early on this new model!

Welcome!
I am a Rivian investor as well. I think your $14K could turn into $34K within 2-3 years. I'm sitting on close to 4k shares, and have been adding to that for the last few years. My amatuer analysis came up with $34 per share target price. No guarantees, of course. Good luck to us both. I think it a very good bet.

And I am waiting for my R2, hopefully before year end. Already have money set aside for that.

Nice. I bought my R1T in full with shares of TSLA held since '13.

I’ve got 370 shares. I can’t really afford to invest 10s of thousands of dollars in a start up, but I wish all of us luck.

Sadly the market doesn’t reward companies based on the production of quality products anymore, they do it based on speculation. This is why Tesla is so overvalued and why Rivian is investing more and more money into AI, autonomy, etc. Otherwise some investors wouldn’t be interested. They want to see an unlimited growth story. I just want a kickass EV.

P.S. I think it’s going to take quite a while for the R2 to be down around $14K. According to the internet, the original R1 Launch Editions have depreciated about 60% in 5 years time. An R2 Launch Edition with a 60% depreciation in 5 years would be around $23,200.

I love my R1S and will probably get a R2 at some point as well.

But this seems like a bad idea. I’m not sure what the upside bet is for a car company. Yeah, I know, Tesla…. But there’s so many weird confounding factors there where the valuation doesn’t even make sense for Tesla, but is also unlikely to be replicable. That’s before you get into all the mess of tariffs, maybe being at the crest of an AI bubble, etc.

I think the poster is indicating that he hopes his $14K investment into RIVN stock will eventually appreciated enough to be the purchase price for a new R2 in a few years. At least that's how I read it.

Similar. Between selling my TSLA shares (for >1000% what I paid for them, sold *JUST* below their all-time peak before the huge drop,) selling my actual Tesla vehicle for a profit over what I paid for it two years earlier, and selling my old Ford F-250 for double what I paid for it 8 years earlier, (the two vehicles the R1T replaced) my R1T was nice and cheap.

I wasn't as smart with timing. The one time I went against my usual pragmatic ways, I held on and did not begin to pull out until it dropped to 200-ish (Russian invasion of Ukraine). Sold the rest even later. But, yah, cars are depreciating assets. It's better to pay for a car this way than with one's actual hard-earned pay. Something I wish I had learned earlier in life.

I purchased my first shares in March 2024, right after the public presentation of R2 and R3(x). I have accumulated over the last two years. I was first attracted by the product roadmap. RJ combines world class technology capabilities *and* strategy development and execution. He makes me think of Bezos back in the Amazon days: he thinks big and execution is razor sharp. The board is top class (notably Johan Krafcik and Peter Krawiec), the spin offs are promising (Mind robotics!!!) and I believe the "platform for automakers" business has not landed with Wall Street...yet. I am fortunate enough to have a large position @15.2USD, which happens to be around the same price VW paid for its shares and the strike price for RJ massive compensation package. The first tranche unlocks at @40usd, I tie my fortune to his.

This clickbait thread should be closed, and the OP should be warned for posting a clearly debunkable lie. While I support everyone's opinions and suggestions, I believe this forum should be a place where information can be trusted. Posting that you bought a vehicle that isn't available for delivery as of the posting date is a clear lie, not to mention the absurd claim that it was purchased for $14K. If we start going down this slippery slope, soon enough no one will be able to tell what information is the truth, wishful thinking, or speculation if the title is not truthfully stated.

OP would be better off investing in Vanguard Total Stock Market, say $30,000. In about 6 to 7 years he could then buy an R2.

First of all Im not here to discuss my portfolio or debate index vs. indivudal stocks. Nor past perfomance vs. future risk. Im not here to state one way or another is the best road to success. There are many choices. Only hindsight tells the story not written yet.
I clearly stated there are risks and I see nothing wrong with those who own shares to state they do.
This is a Rivian site and I assume populated with enthuiasts who own a product or wish to.
Clickbait insinutes deception. Im not selling anything nor omitting facts. I clearly stated my stock purchases are intended to be used in a future purchase of a R2. Im not here to advocate for any purchase or sale. Y'all want to talk about it thats cool.
I doubt very much this stock will hit $60 a share anytime soon or the valuations be justified until things not seen happen. I doubt anyone is truly gulible to think I can buy a R2 for 14k do they?
