OPINIONS NEEDED: PREOWNED 2024 GEN 1 QUAD 24,000 miles

Looking to get a 2024 preowned R1T. Thoughts on this deal? I have a Gen 2 Quad R1S. Not sure if I will be sorely disappointed in a Gen 1 Quad R1T or if I should go Trimax. Will keep both that is why I’m thinking preowned for R1T. Prices definitely have gone up in the preowned market as the conflict with Iran continues to rattle the oil market.

It is really between a 2024 Gen 1 Quad preowned and a 2025 Trimax Preowned. Seems prices of the quad will be 65-72k. Trimax hovering around 83-93.

attached is the current 2024 R1T with 24k miles on it. It does come with a stealth wrap.

Thoughts? Good deal? Gen 1 Quad 2024 vs 2025 Trimax. Likely price difference will be 10k-20k depending on mileage. Worth the increase or Quad is good. 2024 I heard in Quads may be the best year as they worked out most issues. Not sure how true that is?

Tri has more range. Do you need it? If not, I would go Gen 1 quad. I've driven one Tri R1T loaner, it was nothing special over my Gen 1 R1S IMO.

In my experience shopping for R1Ts, there will be a larger price gap; both should be pretty close in capabilities and speed. There are lots of refinements to Gen 2, but what stands out for me would be autonomy and the v2 tanneau cover (mid 2025). CCS port is just fine. Don't forget about the Gen1 quads having the longest of all warranties, so a '24 quad might be the same or longer warranty as a '25 Tri.
I would be surprised to find a TRI anywhere in the 80s, and stock is limited; most TRI builds I've seen are in the 90s. And I think you could do better in costs for a Gen1; there are some great deals on Gen1, and that's why I chose my used Gen1 quad. It was much, much cheaper than a standard dual base model.
I love my Gen1, and I would choose the same again if someone totaled it today. I'll admit that I don't rank autonomy that high, but if that's important, the Gen2 will be much more capable and will continue to grow. I think us Gen1 owners are nearing our autonomy limits. Personally, I feel the deals in Gen2 vehicles will show up roughly one year from now due to the combination of R1-to-R2 conversion customers and the 2-year leases for the Gen2 rollouts coming back into the used sales market.
Lastly, my experience is that the Rivian used inventory site was my last choice for sourcing a used Rivian. I love Rivian, but they don't let you test drive ahead of time, don't have vehicles on display to inspect before you buy, and their prices are higher. I'd personally try Craigslist, Cars.com or Autotrader.com. I had a great conventional buying experience from my local GM dealer who took my R1T as a trade-in; I showed up, test drove, and signed papers, all within 1.5 hrs.

I have a Gen 1 quad. I'd personally go with that, with the deciding factor being the price gap.

Rivian did make improvements between Gen 1 & Gen 2, but I can't think of any that I would say are worth ~$10k+.

Of course, this is based on the things I value, and I I'm not particularly representative of other Rivian buyers.

Take a close look at the differences between the vehicles and think through whether there's anything in the Tri-max that you think is truly worth $10k-$20k. Then decide what else you would do with $10k-$20k left in your pocket.

If I were to buy a new car today, I'd be going with a dual-motor max pack. I think that hits all my needs and wants.

Buy the quad! Same truck as mine minus the interior and wheels. Amazing vehicle in my opinion.

Technological differences, including autonomous driving, between the two generations are probably known to you already. So you should be able to assess how important that is to you. Performance-wise the tri has a very slight edge. The marrix headlights also have better automation than gen1 headlights (which misbehaves so often that I have auto-high disabled early on). That said, I have never found the gen1’s beam pattern to be lacking. Best of all cars I’ve ever owned or driven in fact. The quad being older and closer to end of development is likely going to be more stable. So what remains is the value question. What’s important to you and what represents a good value.
