I’ve mentioned my second Rivian R1T delivery and related R1T trade-in in other threads, but have had a couple people ask for details so here’s the story. The quick background is that back in Sep/Oct 2021 I wasn’t sure if I wanted the R1T, R1S, max pack, etc, so I placed three orders since they were fully refundable. The story is probably interesting because I managed to trade up to a new R1T and pocket some cash. Lucky bastard, I am.

Order 1 - Sep 2021: R1T Adventure Large Pack
Delivered Sep 2022; Traded into Rivian Jun 2023 w/ 6,500mi
2022 R1T Adv, Glacier White, Forest Edge, 20” AT
Vehicle SubTotal: $77,600

Order 2 - Oct 2021: R1T Adventure Max Pack
Shop selection to the below config made Apr 2023
2023 R1T LE, Launch Green, Ocean Coast, 20” AT, RUS
Vehicle SubTotal: $74,300 ($3,300 less than above)

June 2023 Delivery/Trade-in Transaction…
All went really well with Rivian including my guide and experience at the Costa Mesa, CA, service center.
Vehicle SubTotal: $74,300
Tax, Title, License: $8,849 (second, unavoidable TTL expense)
Vehicle Full Total: $83,149
Trade-in Offer: $78,570 ($970 more than I paid)
Tax Credit per PBA: $7,500 (pending => $1,349 net extra TTL)

Final Outcome: New truck with “better” config and $2921 in pocket!
(I think… New full total - trade - tax credit. Someone check my maths.)

I am trading the PTC for the TBD manual tonneau and lost 2x 12v plugs, but overall very happy with this move. I already got an OBD-2 to USB converter to solve the under-dash power for my phone mount and I can live without the frunk 12v or try to add it back in. I also don’t think either PTC is great long-term and rationalized the manual cover will be less trouble.
