Recently came upon this fantastic article in Wired - https://www.wired.com/story/the-righteous-ev-owners-who-wont-let-their-broken-cars-die/
For those who don't have the means to read it, it goes over the birth of the Fisker Owner's Association (https://fiskeroa.com) and the concept of a "volunteer car company." From the problems of the Fisker Ocean leaving people stranded (figuratively and literally) to community hustle to buy up spare parts in warehouses, this article deeply touches on Right to Repair and the crazy lengths a community went through to keep the Fisker Ocean running.
Could there be a "Rivian Owner's Association (ROA)" in the future? I think we all want Rivian to succeed as a company and to provide service forever but no one can be certain about the future. With the evolution of cars to being computers-on-wheels and being locked out of modifications to digital systems, this could put us owners in a situation down the line.
As a Gen 1 R1S Launch Edition owner, I definitely understood what I was getting myself into when I put down that first deposit. Still, it is interesting to think about where the industry is headed and how much we actually "own" them.
