Recently came upon this fantastic article in Wired - https://www.wired.com/story/the-righteous-ev-owners-who-wont-let-their-broken-cars-die/

For those who don't have the means to read it, it goes over the birth of the Fisker Owner's Association (https://fiskeroa.com) and the concept of a "volunteer car company." From the problems of the Fisker Ocean leaving people stranded (figuratively and literally) to community hustle to buy up spare parts in warehouses, this article deeply touches on Right to Repair and the crazy lengths a community went through to keep the Fisker Ocean running.

Could there be a "Rivian Owner's Association (ROA)" in the future? I think we all want Rivian to succeed as a company and to provide service forever but no one can be certain about the future. With the evolution of cars to being computers-on-wheels and being locked out of modifications to digital systems, this could put us owners in a situation down the line.

As a Gen 1 R1S Launch Edition owner, I definitely understood what I was getting myself into when I put down that first deposit. Still, it is interesting to think about where the industry is headed and how much we actually "own" them.

There's gotta be a way to jailbreak a Rivian. Obviously would miss out on some of the functionality and have to tether your phone for navigation, comma, etc

I hope the car industry in general and Rivian in particular do not decide to get on the subscription bandwagon, although I can easily see that happening eventually.

It’s amazing how often I see Oceans driving around the Seattle and Vancouver BC areas.

There are a few thousand here in NYC. A company scooped them at a huge discount and leases them out to TLC/ride-share drivers. The company even went as far as opening its own service center for the vehicles

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

I'm ordering an r1t in April, but already have modification plans to circumvent the 12V battery failure lockouts. Beyond that, I intend to study the suspension carefully as I have years of hydraulic repair experience with heavy equipment that has increased in complexity alongside EV's. The pneumatic suspension is my final focus, for which I also have experience from equipment repairs. Together, we can break the code.
