I recently did something people have been asking me about and I’ve been curious about for a while myself. I figured the community here might find it interesting.
I tested Comma running Sunnypilot while towing our Winnebago travel trailer with my 2022 Rivian R1T to see how well the system handles hands-free driver assist with a trailer attached.
Obviously towing changes a lot about how the vehicle behaves: extra weight, longer stopping distances, and different dynamics in curves. I wanted to see how the system handled driving, lane centering, and general stability with the trailer behind it.
Overall I was pretty impressed with how well it handled the drive. The lateral control stayed solid even with the extra length behind the truck, and it did a great job holding lanes and navigating curves.
