Loving my 2023 R1T. What it would take to get me to get a new R1T

With the announcement of the R2, I thought about what it’d take to get a new Rivian. I like having a pickup, so I’d most likely get another R1T.

My 2023 R1T is finally in great shape, after numerous service visits (knock on wood!) and I’m reluctant to have to repeat that experience with a new truck.

That said, if I were to get a new R1T, these are the things I’d like to see. Curious what you all might have in mind too:

- Meridian or better audio
- 800V charging
- Tougher/more robust suspension and tie rods
- Mechanical door handles on the interior

My 2022 R1T LE has been problem free for >3.5 years. I plan to keep it until it dies. It still feels new even though I have 40k miles on it and have driven it extensively off road and camped with it (RTT) for maybe 50-60 days. Also driven it halfway across the country and back on several occasions.

- I already have Meridian. No complaints.
- I have 400V charging. No complaints.
- You can buy those tie rod sleeves, or replace the Gen 1 rods with Gen 2 rods , if you worry about that. I haven't felt the need. But no need to buy a new vehicle just for this.
- I have mechanical door handles on the interior.

I can't think of anything that the new generation R1T has that I would want. Plus, I only paid about half of what a new Quad costs, so ...

What I *am* going to buy is a R2 LE to complement my R1T. Different use cases.

I have a 22 QM LE, what I want at this point is Rivian care (extended warranty) in my state. The truck has been great don’t see the point of a R2 for now.

Apparently, service centers will not allow Gen 2 tie rods to be installed on Gen 1 vehicles.

While I don’t have complaints on my Gen 1 R1T, again I love it, I’m wondering what it’ll take for me to upgrade it.

You have to replace both the inner and the outer tie rods, and get an alignment, so it's a not cheap. Perhaps a different service center if your closest is reluctant. An alternative is just to buy the Gen 1 spares and keep them in your recovery kit. Or buy the sleeves.

Yes, I will probably do that too when available. Still have at least a year before I hit the 5 yr/60000 comprehensive limit, then another 4+ years before I hit the 8 yr/175000 battery/drivetrain.

I traded my Gen 1 R1T LE for a Gen2 R1S. I very much regret it.

Keep your truck. It’s a damn good one. You’re missing out on some of the newer features but I think the Gen 1 vehicles are simply better built.
