Looks like EV Base has a electric retractable roof shade for the R1T. I don't see one for the R1S. https://www.evbase.com/collections/...ss-roof-automatic-retractable-sun-visor-shade

Rivian So you want a retractable sunroof (shade)? {filename}

I have no affiliation with EV Base. I stumbled across this on the EV Base site while identifying another item for someone with a question. No idea how well it is made or works. I don't see one for the S. Did a search and didn't find any previous discussions about it, only comments from many who said they'd rather have a traditional sunroof. This is probably as close to one as it gets.

Hard no for $700. I tinted mine with 50% and ceramic and I don’t feel any heat coming through at all. It is slightly darker during the day but at night you can’t see stars through it but you can see street lights

$560 with 20% code. but yeah, who knows how well this works and that still seems pretty pricey.....

I hate that Rivian, in all its outdoorsy, woods-ness didn’t think its owners would want the open air experience of an actual slide-opening moonroof. What an oversight. I’d rather have paid the cost they charge for the electroluminescent roof for an open air option. The dynamic roof is like a cute party trick that loses its appeal after the first ten uses

Looks interesting and they filled a void. All the other options were tint or the clip on ones. Looking through their pictures, it looks like they attach a headliner (with all the moving parts)directly around the perimeter of the glass? They show a picture of someone sitting in the driver seat, but it looks like all the added bulk is in the rear. It's also powered by a 12V, but where would that connect to? Hopefully it can stand up to prolonged heat and UV.

I tinted my glass back then so I wouldn't be in the market for this.

I'm still waiting for my removable roof.

Nice find, thanks for sharing. I have yet to go through a summer in my R1T, so I don't know if this is something I might want. I imagine it would appeal to people who live in the south and get tons of sun.

I agree I would have preferred that Rivian gave us an opening sun roof option. That or that they made the existing design get much more opaque. Doesn't seem like the current opaque mode will do much to block out the sun.

It's expensive and I wish it came in green, but my wife told me to order one... she hates how janky the clip in ones are... they all have daylight showing through. She won't allow just tint; she wants 100% uv blockage where she can get it.
The motor/roll bump is on the back but doesn't look overly intrusive. They should list dimensions. Apparently it plugs into the cigarette/12V port... I'd rather hardwire it.

Could not agree more. Also, call me paranoid, but I'd be much more inclined to use the luggage rails on a standard roof with a moon roof than putting all that cargo over glass.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. Rather I think they made a business decision as a start up that such an option would interfere too much with production costs and need for profitability to make it a viable option.

As an early preorder and Gen 1 owner, I initially planned to wait and configure for the removable roof option, but it suddenly and sadly disappeared.

Rivian’s marketing folks are smarter than you think - as are their business executives. They need to be profitable and as much as I want and still want a removable roof, it’s clearly not currently feasible from a business standpoint.

Many enthusiastic Rivian owners also hate both a glass roof and removable roof and prefer a solid metal roof. You can’t assume all Rivian owners want one, despite it being a very attractive option for some.

I think you missed the point…

I’m not assuming anything about what all Rivian owners might want…

I was very specific in saying I would rather pay the cost they charge for the optional dynamic roof for an open air roof. The good thing about the cost of additional engineering is the upcharge companies employ
