How do you know they are paying for this? Granted, we have every right to be pessimistic about things considering the state of the world, but it is possible that the editors/writers at Top Gear did this all on their own.

Just my assumption, if you have a good Marketing team or Marketing company, they will all but write the article. It is just standard practice for Marketing to be persistent and try to be on top of the information pile.

Even if Rivian paid for this coverage, this is good for them. They need all the help they can get to get the word out to the 'normies' at this time. Outside of the EV world, Rivian really isn't that well known IMHO.

Who else in the US would come close to RJ if you had to name the top EV influencer? That guy (what's his name?) that runs Lucid? That guy (what's his name?) that runs Polestar? Farley (hah!)? Barra?

The immediate name that comes to mind is Muskrat but for various reasons I can see why they didn't name him.

But it makes me think that the candidates shouldn't be limited to company CEOs, no? An INFLUENCER could be anybody really. Just as long as they are influencing the public on EVs.

Honestly, My worry is not that Rivian won't make it through the R1/R2 production desert. It is that Rivian will be purchased and eviscerated for the IP or their production capacity by a delivery company or ride-share concern. The backstop to such an action is the overweight of the extra bets like VW Group, Uber, Also, MIND Robotics, ABRP, and Rivian charging network. Each extra bet Rivian makes, creates extra stiffness to stock takeover and flush tactics investors tend to make.

Playing to the crowd here, Rivian also has a strong customer fandom culture. Even those who don't own Rivian like the EV bets, involved CEO and investments in SXSW, charging, clean energy (heck, there is even an on-site wind generator in Normal, IL). Each little statement, extra in the vehicles like vegan leather, flashlight and hidden easter-eggs make ownership a better play.
