Let's remove the Conserve Mode stigma

I don't sense a stigma against conserve mode in totality, only against using it for every day driving. Conserve is a great idea for highway driving, especially if it makes the difference between having to stop and charge or not. That's essentially the entire use case for Conserve though, and...

Auto Union Boss Wants 46% Raise, 32-Hour Work Week in ‘War’ Against Detroit Carmakers

The problem that GM and Ford (and to some extent the NA operations of Stellantis) is a microcosm of the problems America faces. Massive under or unfunded liabilities in the form of pensions and healthcare costs for a rapidly aging population without enough incoming workers to carry the burden...

What tires work for the factory 21” wheels beside the OEM?

Im going to end up squeezing a little over 25k out of mine, so it's not as bad as some have made it out to be. Just don't drive around in conserve unless you absolutely need it on a road trip and you should get 20k.

What tires work for the factory 21” wheels beside the OEM?

That's interesting, there has been a lot of debate about whether that tire would be available in that size with conflicting information coming from various sources. If it is available, it's a game changer for sure. Even though it costs about the same as the factory tires, getting 2-3x the tread...

Will rivian ever fix my auto tonneau cover?

The fallacy there is in thinking that the NACS adapter will be on time in "early 2024."

Will rivian ever fix my auto tonneau cover?

Probably closer to 15000 since the vast majority of 2021/22 builds have them. When the "fix" was first announced with the timeline of midsummer, I said I will be pleasantly surprised if I have a replacement done by Christmas. I'm standing by that based on the rollout so far.

Will rivian ever fix my auto tonneau cover?

I am pretty confident they will. I am equally confident it will be much later than they said it would be done, as is tradition. Anyone who expected to actually have their cover fixed "midsummer" would have to be in some sort of dream world.

    Tire Conundrum

Yes, when I calculated the rear axle GAWR it was close to the max load for the MIchelin Defenders, but not over. If you're doing a lot of heavy towing and/or maxing out your payload it's probably not a good tire, but if that's the case you should probably be running 20s anyways instead of the...

GM, Ford Shares Slide as $80 Billion Union Risk Hits Confidence

I'm not going to say that every executive is worth the amount that they are paid or that they are always the most qualified person for the job, but let's not create a false equivalency between an automotive executive who routinely makes decisions affecting millions of dollars worth of business...

GM, Ford Shares Slide as $80 Billion Union Risk Hits Confidence

I remember an article from the early 2000s that was discussing the challenges that GM faced due to union pensions. At the time, over $1,000 per car was devoted just to cover existing pensions from already retired workers. That was almost 20 years ago so I'm sure it's far worse now. That's...

GM, Ford Shares Slide as $80 Billion Union Risk Hits Confidence

Yep this is absolutely a "you made your bed now sleep in it" deal. Imagine a 2008 scenario where GM heads into bankruptcy, but in an environment where Congress is not in an accommodating mood and Tesla has the juice to swoop in an acquire them. That'll really help the long term prospects of UAW...

GM, Ford Shares Slide as $80 Billion Union Risk Hits Confidence

Honestly it's pretty tone-deaf and myopic to do this right now considering the disadvantage that legacy automakers are already at regarding labor against Tesla and Rivian. They should consider that if they bankrupt their employer it will ruin things for future generations. Then again, since...

Q2 2023 Results -- $RIVN on the right trajectory: earnings solid and revenue, margins all heading in the right direction

The comments that Ford's CEO made recently about how convoluted their software update process is was illuminating. They need to massively overhaul their software process and I'm not sure they have it in them. Combine that with the labor related issues that they have due to the albatross of...

    Tire Conundrum

I could be wrong, but I think it's the opposite and the differential is pretty small. The speedo will read fast and it's a small % based on the difference in tire size. The efficiency ratings will adjust once you've driven for a while. Certainly not for everyone, but it's about $3,000 cheaper...

    Tire Conundrum

@Donald Stanfield I'm planning on doing the Michelin Defenders in a 275/50/21 on the stock 21" wheels. It's a slightly smaller tire than OEM (.5" less sidewall) but the load ratings are still high enough that there shouldn't be any issues.

50 Aspect Tires on OEM 21" Wheels

That's likely what I'm going to use when the time comes, but I probably won't need them until next month.
