When RAN opens to the public, it's going to be super useful as they are placed in thoughtful destinations vs. highway stops most other dcfc go. Instead of competing with Tesla or EA, I think they are taking a good approach. It would be nice if Rivian focuses on state/national parks and similar...
Based on the original question, it makes sense for her to plug in. Everyone else may have a different scenario that works for them, at least from the responses. What we do or should do may not be what she should do in this case. We don't have many details to go on either.
The Rivian adapter only supports a 5-15 circuit I think and won't utilize the extra power of a 5-20. Without some creative adapters to use the 14-50, it won't matter what they plug into.
Hate to break it to you but the gx470 is more capable off-road has the same top speed and is vastly more reliable on the order of 10x. Probably more considering my Rivian is broken at 9000 miles and the GX has yet to break despite 150k of towing and rock crawling. This coming from personal...
$17.16 per gallon of gas equivalent but the Rivian gets 82mpg so 20 cents per mile. Our GX470 would be 22 cents per mile.
The RAN price change brings into question Rivian's promise that RAN's are powered by renewable energy. That implies they made a contract in bulk of some sort to purchase...
My car is sitting at the service center eating 4mi/day (120mi/mo) and they only have the keycard. Gear Guard off. It might brick itself before they fix the drive unit or whatever is broken on it. It's down to 15% and I have complete apathy towards the car at this point.
Shame because I did a...
My car is going to brick itself at the service center sitting there lol! It's using 1% per day which is 4 miles or 120 miles per month. Almost one third of a battery is wasted every month. How they call the EPA numbers with this lie is amazing.
I was at a campground recently for the weekend and used my tt30 adapter with the mobile charrger. I didn't dial the car back and it went all night without tripping or getting hot. Cooler than my main panel at home. The pedestal was fed by 1/0. I was surprised the 30a breaker didn't trip but next...
Nope the AC compressor is high voltage. You can verify by looking at the orange leads. Even the Prius uses a HV AC compressor. The 12V battery is 18ah and can barely push a Barbie Jeep across the street.
I'm off camping but have two campsites with tt30 receptacles. Over night I recharged the rivian off one. It ran all night at 30a 3.5kw without getting hot or tripping the breaker. I was surprised I didn't need to dial it back. The pedestal has 1/0 supplying it which is good for 125a. Likely why...
Lfp packs need to be charged to 100% occasionally to recalibrate the electronics. However they are the same as NMC in that they don't like it.
Lots of good advice here on generally not going to 100 unless you need it but it's not deadly to the pack by any means.
My advice is charge it to the...
