I wonder how often the EPA updates their cost estimates. At current US average kWh/gas prices the Rivian is $2.12/25 miles and the Smart is $2.15/25 miles. Saving $55k+ buys a lot of gas if all you need to do is get back and forth somewhere like most drivers.
I agree that EREVs are not in Rivianās best interest to develop right now. They have a pretty decent product line forming with their BEVs and not a lot of money or time to make the company truly successful. Thereās a definite use case and desire for EREVs but I donāt think itās something Rivian...
That involves the cost of hiring additional employees in order to make that work. Most states donāt do annual vehicle inspections or emissions checks.
Not really. The government is āspendingā the money because they are no longer retaining what was due. All the non-refundable part does is prevent someone with no tax liability from being able to claim a straight payout from the government for this credit. Rough numbers for 2023 were 1.2 million...
In what way does that make an EREV unnecessary? With the Silverado I could tow 250ish miles and then recharge for 1.5hrs to go the next 250 miles. With the Ram Charger I could tow 350ish miles, gas up in ten minutes and tow another 250 miles. The Silverado also requires a charging location at...
Youāre not wrong, it does add complexity to use an electric drivetrain with ICE onboard backup. That said, an internal combustion engine and generator is pretty basic technology and low maintenance. Itās a whole lot simpler than a traditional hybrid drivetrain where both systems must be...
Thatās one model, not something to draw a broad conclusion from. The only other truck/SUV EREV doesnāt face that limitation and can tow 14k pounds which is more than a standard Ram 1500.
The Ecoflow is designed to prioritize portability and ease of use which comes at a cost. In a shed you can run a much larger but cheaper battery array with a separate charge controller and inverter.
Of course, never meant to sound like you donāt need battery storage.
If youāre building it yourself and have some space in the shed you can do it a lot cheaper than for what an ecoflow and extra batteries will cost. With fixed panels at about 40-50% of their rating on a daily basis due to angle of the sun and losses in the conversion of DC storage to AC charging...
I donāt think heās referring to 90% of the rated range but rather 90% of the usage being electric. Daily drives to work, school, etc can be covered by cheap electricity while the longer weekend trips or towing have the comfort and ease of a gasoline backup. Even on a level 1 12amp charge for ten...
Thereās still plenty of ripping off to be done with EVs, especially as they get packed with all the fancy technology people want. Itās not as if Rivianās are trouble free from day one and never see the inside of a dealership again. Post warranty Rivianās are looking to follow the lines of Land...
It depends on where youāre at. For me the mini is faster than the 5G speeds I usually see and definitely faster than LTE. If I have cell service there isnāt much of a reason to use it though so in reality the mini exceeds all cell speeds because there are none when itās in use. I see 100mbps and...
With the video it will be easy for the police to determine an accurate speed for the SUV. The distance between the light poles and the time it took the SUV to travel that distance in the video are both known values so speed is easily derived.
Check my math, I think itās right. I know itās not apples to apples but an equivalent size/weight truck will require in the neighborhood of the same energy use.
My diesel 3500 is roughly a 40% efficient engine so it uses about 14.8kwh of the available energy in a gallon of diesel. Unloaded...
