I recently outlined a trip that me, @cpucrazy and our SOs took to Canada (Read Here). While driving through the many mountain passes on our journey we lost service a few times and got the dreaded "Spotify Unavailable".
We joked about how it looked like a song was playing "Spotify Unavailable"...
Good call out! I didn't notice any charging at petro Canada where we were (they may have been there and I just didn't notice them). But we did see plenty of 50kw flows!
Sounds like a fun (and very long) trip for you!
Haha that's true. Park City has A TON.
I didn't mention much about charging (I should have, though!)
Both national parks had free Tesla Destination chargers (the older 80A units - VERY NICE). Plus our hotel in Banff had a whole row of them.
As far as fast chargers, they were a bit sparse...
Don't worry the amount of energy that it uses when you just sitting there. That was definitely a mental adjustment I had to make when switching to Rivian.
You'd have to be sitting there for a couple of hours with the AC running to use even 1% of your battery. The motors use way, way more energy...
Unfortunately I'm not sure there's much to be done about the car seat situation. It does use the buckles as well as a weight based occupancy sensor (new for gen 2). I'm guessing the permanent buckle isn't working, because it probably assumes it's just a car seat permanently buckled in, rather...
...and by first REAL road trip, I mean first multi-day road trip. It was 4 people on this trip: me and my BF with another couple. 2,200 mi and 1 MWh of energy later here's how it went!
The Route (And Weather)
We started just south of SLC, UT and drove north through glacier national park...
Rivian actually got rid of guides last year. When I bought mine I was never assigned a guide. Instead the folks at my delivery center filled that role (and they did great)
Reboot just to drive? Never. Not once
Reboot because sensor aren't working? Frequently when I first got my gen 2, haven't had to do it in the last 4 months.
Reboot because something minor on the infotainment screen is being annoying? One a month
I had the same issue pop up for me towards the end of last year. No amount of resets fixed it. Then it randomly fixed itself one day. Over the next few updates it would randomly stop working for a day or two, then come back. I haven't had it disappear since 2025.06.30, though
I've had an issue with automatic profile switching that's been driving me nuts since I first got my R1S back in September. I have a Galaxy S23+ and my BF has a Pixel 9 Pro. Almost every single time he's with me, my R1S chooses his profile instead of mine. It doesn't matter where he is, if he's...
My gen 2 has it on both sides (August '24 build). The 12v and the sunglasses holder can co-exist. They removed it for cost savings.
That said, I was under the impression that ascend trim still had it. But OP has ascend so... Maybe it's all of gen 2?
One thing to add to this conversation: the volume jump between 1 and 2 is specifically a gen 1 Elevation audio specific problem. Meridian and gen 2 don't suffer from the same issue. At least from my experience
My .02 - the gen 2 is a really, really good vehicle. A few things are a step backwards from gen 1 but overall it's just a better vehicle.
HOWEVER - that doesn't mean the gen 1 ISN'T an excellent vehicle. Because it is. Rivian didn't release gen 2 hoping it would entice current gen 1 owners...
What you're seeing there is the low beams. Those pixels are only used for cornering lights, that follow the angle of your steering wheel.
The high beams have have a few more pixels. (This article says there are 35. Not sure if that includes the low beam pixels or if this is in addition to...
