My R1T is my first EV and since I've only charged at home with an EVSE, or with the mobile charger, I have zero experience with anything other than a J1772 connector. Having never been to a DCFC, I haven't had the pleasure of wresting with a CCS1 cable & connector in sub-zero weather, nor have...
Edit: I got the original percentages wrong, which gave me an optimistic number for total miles. For the record, I used 2/32 as the end point, which gives 10/32 as the amount of usable tread.
I have a set of the General HTS60's on my R1T and just had my state's annual safety inspection done...
The very public spat between the President and his "first bro" inspired me to put a few EV-related thoughts down and throw them out there for comment. No one, least of all me, has a crystal ball, so much of what I've written is highly speculative, though I'd like to think that it is at least...
We know that the launch and early R2 production will be out of the Normal plant. I think that Rivian has said that they will have the capacity to build up to 150,000 units at the expanded IL site. Rivian is also helping to stand up a business park near the Normal site, both to help with domestic...
Yes sorry, I should I have said that what I recall reading indicated that planned R2 battery pack with the 4695 cells may be capable of charging at up to 800v.
Edited to clarify:
My understanding is that Rivian stockpiled a substantial number of batteries from its current Chinese and Korean suppliers to be used for the R2 at launch. The longer-term plan is for the R2 to quickly transition to the larger and more advanced 4695 batteries produced at the...
I have very modest off-pavement needs, and a modest budget as well, so went with a set of General Grabber HTS60's in 275/60R20. Only have a few thousand miles on them so don't really know how they will wear, but they are far quieter than the OEM Scoprions. I believe that there are also...
I understand your frustration with the lack of communication; Rivian certainly seems to have dropped the ball there. I don't think that is typical however, and was not the case in my one experience with Rivian mobile service. I got several messages from Rivian about the appointment, including...
It's pretty clear that there is no comprehensive plan in place with respect to nearly everything that the present administration is doing. What is clear however, is that the push to get rid of energy tax credits generally, and the EV tax credit specifically, is something that will be done for...
Second everything said about Malvern. Very pleasantly surprised that Rivian was able to get the OK from the Commonwealth for the SC, given the restrictive and antiquated dealer-centric regulations.
Follow-up to mobile service visit.
I was not able to re-create the errors that prompted the service call, however the tech was able to see the error codes in the vehicle log. That was good news, but the bad news was that the tech was unable to determine the root cause of the tailgate error. The...
Thanks to all for the replies.
The appointment is for tomorrow afternoon and I think I'm going to keep it. Based on what folks have indicated, the tech ought to be able to see the fault in the vehicle log even if it cannot be reproduced in real time.
About a week ago, the driver display on my R1T showed the tailgate down, when it was not. After dropping and reclosing the tailgate several times to no effect, I did both a soft and hard reset, also to no effect. In addition to the warning on the driver display, the tailgate button on vehicle...
Agree that Oldman is terrific, but IMO, the show has one of the strongest casts of any recent TV series. Everyone is very good, particularly the female cast members; they are all outstanding and it's impossible to pick a favorite (or favourite). The show is actually good right from the opening...
". . . The pack is a structural part of the body and the top of the pack is also a portion of the floor of the vehicle. . ."
Does this design feature mean that the battery pack can never be removed/replaced? Or is simply that there are various attachment points where parts of the frame or body...
Reminds me of the time (showing my age here), when I went to local audio shop looking to get a cassette player for my car. The sales guy said something like "Why the hell would you want one of those? Cassettes are a dead end; I give them six months. Eight track is the way to go . . ."...
If our 12v batteries are really seeing that kind of voltage swing, particularly discharging to 3v routinely, it's no wonder that they have such a short service life.
I have a Victron Blue Smart 5 amp charger already. I know most folks are using 1.5 or 3 amp chargers, but is there any reason that Victron couldn't or shouldn't be used via an OBD connection to keep the Rivian 12v battery charged, on the Pb battery setting?
