  1. About tire pressures for non-stock tires

Toyo offers a nice guide that answers some questions too. https://www.toyotires.com/media/bszlobyw/tsd-12-011_replacing_tires_on_light_trucks.pdf Here's one from Bob is the Oil Guy https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/tire-pressure-on-lt-tires.356317/
  2. About tire pressures for non-stock tires

This was explored on prior posts as well - as you move up in load rating, the max PSI is needed to hit that max rating. Now that max rating is way higher than the Rivian needs, but the stock pressures (for an SL tire) will be inadequate for an E load tire. So the optimal pressure is likely in...
  3. Pirelli OEM 22in vs Michelin Defender LTX M/S2

Rivian actually does the alignment at three heights (according to my service manager at Costa Mesa) so most outside shops can guess but won’t ever get it to Rivian specs.
  4. 22 vs 20 ride quality for 2025 R1S - worth the swap?

If you go 20’s and want the best ride quality go with all season tires because the AT tires will eventually get soooo loud it will drive you nuts if you want a smooth ride and pleasant driving experience.
  5. 21" tread edge nail repair?

Officially not safe to repair. I'd replace the tire.
  6. Switch to Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 from Pirelli Scorpion 275/55 R21

The vehicle has no idea what tire you have, only tire size. Why would you think Rivian magically has every non OEM tire in their database? If you didn’t change size, leave it alone. The tire size feature is mostly to keep the speedometer accurate. It was never meant to change between tire brands.
  7. Issues with Rivian advice vs America tire advice

“Roasting” tires has that effect on tread wear. :whew:
  8. Issues with Rivian advice vs America tire advice

Because of the regen is balanced, the front has higher regen than the rear, which makes sense since thats how conventional brakes proportion the pressure as well. Because of this, the front tires will wear out more quickly than the rears, even if you are in AWD all the time such as in a quad or...
  9. New 22-inch Staggered Wheel Availability?

Overall height is the same. Going from roughly a 10% lower aspect ratio but also 10% wider maintains the same height and sidewall thickness front and rear roughly.
  10. New 21" tire option - Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2 275/55-21 @ $380

You can purchase and get the tires installed anywhere - Costco, Discount Tire, etc. Discount Tires/America's Tires is technically their contracted partner but I've found they rarely have the correct pucks to lift the vehicle (at least here in southern california), so best to buy your own.
  11. Issues with Michelin Defender LTX MS/2

Take them to another shop where they can do a better job balancing the tire. Sometimes they need to road force balance it and not every shop can do that. My factory tires developed a vibration and I had Firestone do a balance but no difference. Took it to Rivian who charged a fortune but...
  12. Can I only get an alignment at a service center?

Great post. Did Rivian ever explain how the alignment could be so off with so little time in between alignments?
  13. If you’re letting a tire shop work on your Rivian, watch them like a hawk!

Yep, for all the hype that Discount Tire is "trained" to work on Rivians, most don't even have the pucks. When I had my tire rotation done they used my JackPucks and commented wow these are way better than the broken ones we have. They will use their Tesla pucks on your vehicle and they aren't...
  14. Michelin Defender M/S 2 vs Defender Platinum Tires

If its an LT "E" load rated tire, you will need to run higher inflation to have the same load carrying capacity as the stock HL load rated tires. You cannot use the factory inflation numbers since its a different tire class.
  15. Effects of running 50psi on max 80psi tire?

If you run an E load tire you are supposed to run a higher than stock inflation to maintain the same load carrying capacity. 55-60psi is probably appropriate for that load rating.
  16. Any Tire deals?

Something to keep in mind is that Costco is generally very strict on speed rating and load rating. The Michelin Defenders in 22" come as 115H or 119S. The factory load rating is 116H. Now the 115H is probably fine if you don't tow. But Costco might not install it, and recommend the 119S...
  17. Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 R22 115H installed

Costco tends to be picky about load index and speed rating. They might not install a 115H tire.
  18. Alignment through Rivian Service center???

I just had mine aligned under warranty at their Costa Mesa CA service center. The center was crowded and I left my vehicle for 5 days while they worked on it. Result - it’s better but not perfect. It pulled hard to the right previously and now it pulls ever so slightly to the left. But way...
