This is my understanding as well, but I read it on Reddit. Here's hoping the updated software maintains the new battery.
My vehicle was 13 months old, 23,000 miles when the 12V went out. The car always plugged in overnight.
I got the 12V replacement warning yesterday - scheduled with Costa Mesa today and they replaced the battery in an hour. Excellent service by Rivian!
Was told, must be a bad batch, but we all know its an undersized battery that runs through its lifetime charge cycles because its a power hungry...
I run the full 48A on a 60A circuit. It’s a dedicated hard wired connection and the conduit runs along the wall so almost nothing is hidden. I don’t worry about anything melting.
It is possible the limited regen isn't because the battery is cold, but rather, the battery can only charge so fast with regen, so it might be limiting it going down very steep hills to protect the battery.
The Tesla version was just another battery added into the bed of the CT. It isn't what the OP keeps harping about how Americans are clamoring and kicking down the doors for ICE range extenders. It kind of goes to show that there isn't even much of a market for a larger battery.
No one is saying it is not a useful option. It just isn't part of Rivian's philosophy to offer ICE range extenders. The same would apply to pure EV companies like Tesla or Polestar. You won't see them offering a range extender either.
If range anxiety is an issue for you, go buy a vehicle...
I get it that some new members might not know as much about the company and its products as the veterans here.
Rivian's environmental vision don't seem to align with equipping their vehicles with fossil fuel engines even as a range extender. You'll have to look elsewhere for that combo.
Whenever I've had to charge to 100, I just set the limit to 95, and then 45 min prior to departure (just set an alarm or reminder) slide it in the app to 100. That gets the car to 100% right at the time of departure, minimizing time at 100%. And if you forget, 95% is close to full anyways.
4psi does not explain the poor efficiency.
Cold temps can drop range by 50%. That’s probably the extreme. When you say you precondition does that mean you have it plugged in to preheat the car? Sometimes if the vehicle is plugged in and outside, it literally cannot draw enough juice from the...
It is an estimate based on your driving conditions and patterns. Highly unlikely the actual battery capacity changed especially since you are good to keep it 20-70%.
This is a great idea. Here in California, may Costco parking lots are zoo's with lots of backed up traffic. I would hope the chargers are for Costco members only.
The .47 update broke the charge limit. Sometimes I set it to a number on the center screen and it will charge it to the former limit. I'm hoping the .51 update will fix this known bug.
It absolutely slows the charge speed well before 80%. Should you be getting ~73kw at 58%. Probably not. That’s a little low. But it won’t pull 150+ unless you are prob below 40-50% in my experience. Once you hit 60-80 it will throttle down to 125 > 75 and over 80 you will be lucky to maintain...
