Would the quad cost significantly more to produce than a tri once they ramp production?
If they can get the cost of the quad similar I could see them selling quads but software locked to a tri performance and marketed as a Tri. Than allow the user to purchase a $10k upgrade post purchase.

I have "FSD" on my Tesla, hate it. I leave it disabled 98% of the time and use autopilot.
Personally I greatly prefer Rivian autosteer to either..... But it doesnt work on many roads.
I can always click unlock on the app if it opens. I have my keycard as a backup but basically never use it.
But the Tesla unlock is MUCH better and works 99% of the time. Rivian probably works 70% of the time for me. I'm not sure why Rivians is so much worse.
Yeah perhaps this is the case. I've enjoyed all my service in Austin and its one of the bigger centers.
I will say the lack of service centers is certainly a negative. Will probably need the R2 to be a success to where there are a ton more models on the road until that dramatically improves.
Personally - I just hope the quad comes out soon so those Michelin Pilot Sport tires become available. Its crazy there isn't a single high performance tire available for my 800hp vehicle.
You'd think one company would make a single model even if it was crazy overpriced at $900 a tire or such.
Yeah I think Rivian should just sell the quad to make the company more money and aid their progress to profitability. The current Rivian losses are not sustainable if the company is to survive. If that means take more time on the Quad release to control costs thats great. If that means an even...
If I were buying new I really like the idea of the R1 dual standard. LFP pack is much more durable so it can last a million miles. Much cheaper if it had a fault and needed to be replaced. Quicker on long multi charge road trips as it has a better charging curve. Can charge more often to 100% so...
Just practice in your driveway or empty lot so you know exactly what to quickly do. Try tapping the screen for neutral and using the stalk so you know how each work. Once you've got used to it, then it's easy. But I can understand the panic if unprepared.
Once in my Tesla I didn't realize some...
I have a monthly membership and drive right by the wash every day anyways. Takes about 5 minutes. My car is black and sometimes I wash 2-3 times a week. I washed my cars myself back in my 20s but with busy work and young kids it's something I never do any more and have zero regrets.
Have you ever gone to a restaurant?
Cook your food yourself. Works great. Good exercise. Takes less than 2 hours. It's way cheaper to buy groceries and control everything you eat. Takes less time than putting on nice clothes, driving, and waiting at some other building.
I have a model Y and can't wait to get rid of it. Actually loved the Tesla at first, but I've got progressively more annoyed at the downsides of the car each month, can't stand Elon, and have been blown away how awesome the Rivian is.
I reserved the R2 the day reservations opened but was a few...
Worry #1 is yes silly to even be an issue as the 12v is very underpowered. But it can be planned for and mitigated. I have tools to manually open the R1S frunk in the hitch, and in the frunk a 30Ah lifepo that can jump or even run in place of the stock 12v.
I actually was stranded earlier this...
I actually have that 12v battery pack pictured - its a 3rd party Lithium Ion battery jump starter that can start an ICE vehicle. So they must have a bunch of expense for items that could have a generic replacement in this kit.
Curious exactly what tools are needed and what that process entails...
There is actually no park or transmission in an EV. The brakes are applied when the vehicle is in "park".
So if you put the EV into "neutral" it just releases the brakes and the vehicle will roll. Similar with tow mode. The vehicle would actually roll if you had removed brakes and put it into...
The heat pump needs to be designed very well like the Tesla Model 3/Y are to have a benefit. Those have their elaborate octovalve and really do help.
But just putting a basic heat pump without extensive engineering as VW/Audi have done doesn't provide a benefit.
So disappointed! I really liked the thought of having a Rivian. WIth price increases; I thought it would be more like Tesla, where they honor the price at reservation. Or if there was an increase, just a few thousand. But mine today just went from close to $72k to well over $90k for an R1S. It...
