  1. All those unusable/broken charging stations...

There are great experiences to be had - like an EVGo 350kW station with Autocharge+ enabled 800v vehicle. But there are some truly terrible experiences that are a result of this freedom CCS has provided. There aren’t enough parties trying to make a great experience like that, and even companies...
  2. All those unusable/broken charging stations...

RAN is capital intensive and there are only so many Rivian’s on the road. Rivian can’t tie up an unnecessarily large percentage of their cash in a charging network that isn’t making them any money.
  3. All those unusable/broken charging stations...

I don’t know how automotive companies expect non-technical people to use CCS. Tesla takes away the frustrations of payment authorization and such. The apps don’t make it easier for CCS drivers. Like I wouldn’t give my aunt or grandma a CCS vehicle and expect her to be able to figure out how to...
  4. All those unusable/broken charging stations...

In 2yrs and 38k miles (22%, 8% “other” (CCS) of my charging has been at superchargers) with a Model 3, I’ve never seen a malfunctioning Supercharger. I have been to (1) Supercharger location that was throttled due to local utility. I actually Had an alternative at that location - to use 1 of...
  5. All those unusable/broken charging stations...

I won’t sugar coat it; CCS charging sucks. Tesla owners have the least friction in owning an EV. That is all their is to it. WIth adapters for CCS, J1772, CHAdeMO, and all the NEMA outlets; they can charge anywhere except a RAN charger. Every other EV has more challenges, generally speaking. A...
  6. 📊 2022 Q4 and Full-Year Earnings Results & Shareholder Letter: 50K production goal for 2023, ~400 Mile Range for Max Pack

Tesla can’t be all that unique. They still break records every quarter. How come they manage, but everyone else is struggling?
  7. 📊 2022 Q4 and Full-Year Earnings Results & Shareholder Letter: 50K production goal for 2023, ~400 Mile Range for Max Pack

Semiconductor industry is going thru a slow down. Fords reporting doesn’t lineup with what semiconductor manufacturers are saying. same for freight shipping. Ports aren’t backed up like they used to be either.
  8. Grayling Michigan 6 Station RAN now open

I still stand by Rivian not doing anything wrong at Grayling. It is just Rivian being victim of unreliable CCS tech
  9. Grayling Michigan 6 Station RAN now open

We will have to table this discussion for another thread. Closing thought; there are non-Tesla NACS chargers deployed. As a random example, EVgo has them.
  10. Grayling Michigan 6 Station RAN now open

Because CCS constantly has issues, whereas NACS doesn’t. I am left to believe there is something inherently flawed with CCS design or spec. Rivian didn’t do anything wrong here, and this is the outcome….
  11. How often is 100% SoC "safe"

From what I understand, this is why the LFP battery technology is better than the existing designs. Tesla uses it in their Austin built Model Y, and the Model 3 RWD. Our home has LFP batteries to store excess solar. The installers said they can handle a high number of cycles and will experience...
  12. Grayling Michigan 6 Station RAN now open

PlugShare shows 5 of 6 are down right now. The CCS curse strikes again. Off-topic, but when they gonna release a CCS 2.0 that improves on all of the issues, and has a smaller connector? Cuz it’s not like Rivian did anything wrong here and we’re looking at a 83% failure rate on a brand new install.
  13. Benton Harbor, Michigan RAN Chargers are installed!

This is interesting. I’m not sure what it says about Rivian. The area has (2) Tesla supercharger locations (effectively an open network for all NACS vehicles, and open to CCS - pending retrofit). There is an EA location in-progress, in addition to a FlyingJ location in-progress. I love seeing...
  14. Tesla to open 20% of US Superchargers to all EVs by end of 2024, qualifying company for share of billions in federal dollars

As a result of what you mention, I don’t think we will see many existing locations get retrofitted. Superchargers are already busy, and there are already arguments over people cutting in line. Given the state of the CCS network, and people’s behavior - there will be plenty of bold and gutsy...
  15. Tesla to open 20% of US Superchargers to all EVs by end of 2024, qualifying company for share of billions in federal dollars

it does make Rivian look like the odd one in the bunch. This announcement was expected this week, but the specifics of how it will be implemented were unknown. I speculated that the quickest way to expand access to all EV would be the US government pledging financial support for superchargers...
  16. Charging stations progress? Adaptors available yet?

It is alarming how overly optimistic people are with respect to Tesla opening up the Supercharger network. They are counting their chickens before their eggs are hatched. The Supercharger network being made open is problem after problem to be solved for. There is no timetable that has widespread...
  17. Do I Have a Real R1T? Rattles, cracks, creaks and vibrations

you made me wonder how many other off-road vehicles are equipped with air suspension? While comfortable , these systems haven’t ever been notoriously reliable even on Lincoln mallcruisers. And they’ve always been pretty expensive to service. We should really keep a close eye on the air...
  18. Just how far behind is RAN buildout?

Bingo. Rivian supposedly loses between 100-160k per vehicle. Charging networks do not break even, and even operate at a loss - every transaction is more money lost. IMO, Rivian isn’t scaling production or the RAN network anytime soon. Not until their manufacturing cost structure is reduced...
  19. Electrify America charging rate pricing increases starting March 6, 2023

your comment was who cares? And I gave an example of people who care.
  20. Electrify America charging rate pricing increases starting March 6, 2023

People who visit family in colder states, and travel normal distances like 70-110 miles one way. It isn’t a road trip, but it isn’t a short trip. Add some cold weather, leaving with the truck not warmed up or the battery at 91%. It isn’t a big deal in an ICE car, and you really don’t want it to...
