  1. How big of a deal is “clunking” as R1S dual motors engage/disengage?

I called Rivian Service to add the thunking to my service request, and they got me an appointment in 3 days at Malvern PA, 10 miles from home. That is before all my trips so I'm hoping it will be a quick battery replacement and out the door. But thanks for the tip!
  2. How big of a deal is “clunking” as R1S dual motors engage/disengage?

This just started happening to me yesterday when I also got the "Replace 12V battery" message for the first time, so it's good to hear that. I got a service appointment for next week, but I was planning about 600 miles of driving before then. Is this doing any damage to continue driving as it is?
  3. Why can't they retrofit existing R1's with NACS?

Until the entire changing network is converted to NACS, you need to carry an adaptor to have access to the maximum number of charging stations, regardless of which port your car has. Coming from Tesla to a Gen 1 R1S, I see a large number of Tesla SC's marked as Tesla-only. I was surprised to see...
  4. Charging rant from new owner still green around the gills

For a long journey like this, get a Tesla subscription. I believe it is $13/month, and you need to install the Tesla app to use it. The plan gives you lower charging rates, and you will easily get your $13 back. After your trip is finished, you can cancel your subscription. Just be aware that...
  5. Charging rant from new owner still green around the gills

Agreed. In the meantime, it seems that everyone will need an adapter to get maximum access to L3 chargers: With Tesla restricting many sites to Tesla-only, The 2026 NACS Rivians are shut out of all other vendors' CCS1 installations.
  6. Does "Waiting for Charger" stress the 12V?

I have a Chargepoint Home Flex, hardwired on a 60A circuit. I also have an electricity supplier that gives a rebate for EV charging between 11:00PM and 6:00AM. We use it to charge my Gen 1 R1S and my wife's BMW i4, and have been controlling the schedule through the cars' settings, not the...
  7. Seat position restore not working: user error or system fault?

I have a 2023 R1S that I purchased in May of this year. One little annoyance is that I haven't been able to get the Driver Profile settings for the mirrors and seat to work: I adjusted the mirrors, steering wheel position and seat position, and then clicked Remember. If I move the seat, I get...
  8. Tesla Superchargers issue - “unplug and try again”

I traded my Model 3 in on a 2023 R1S a few weeks ago, and it came with the Rivian NACS adapter. On a road trip the following week, I stopped at a Tesla SC I had used before in my Tesla, and I knew to be high speed. I plugged in, and opened the Tesla app and said to start charging. I got an error...
