Yeah, I was planning to spend the long weekend at Baker (leaving today), but we are bailing on it. If I miss it I'll just put on all my snow gear and jump in the lake instead.
Atmospheric river giveth, atmospheric river taketh away...
Do you care to explain what it is about the article that makes it so poorly written? It's literally reporting on statements from high level regulatory officials and then consulting some other outside authorities on the topic. There's hardly an ounce of editorializing in the entire post, nor does...
Hey man, if it was me, it's because I was drinking coffee with my other hand. Otherwise I wave all the time!
Saw three in the space of about thirty seconds on Rainier the other day. And my first handful of R1Ses over the last few weeks. Get hyped!
Look, I love my R1T, but stirring the pot with a hyperbolic post title and then calling a pretty matter-of-fact post reporting on a legitimate NTSB concern "idiocy" is pretty much the definition of "hyping something political."
It's a fact that heavier vehicles are more dangerous to others...
Reminds me of the clips securing the tow hitch cover on the Model Y. Absolute nightmare. I know Munro & company love this stuff for saving $ in manufacturing but it's an absolute nightmare for things that really should be designed to be modular.
Even the puck jack point covers are fussy.
Great pics! Inspired by these and my own photo shoots, I've decided Rivian needs a photo mode remotely accessible via the app -
1. Retract door handles (if extended)
2. Extend mirrors (if retracted)
3. Control lights (e.g. DRL/Headlight/Fog/None)
For bonus points...
4. Adjust suspension height...
(BTW/case in point - I've been pretty happy with the 20" ATs on packed snow in my winter driving so far, including some pretty hairy days, but I just swapped out for a set of Blizzak LTs for the rest of the season. If you drive in sub-freezing conditions often, winter tires are a good...
As in, "the end," as in, "the post probably could have ended here." ?
Not trying to razz too much, I know you acknowledged the tires were a limiting factor in your original post. But the disappointment really should begin and end there. No vehicle, let alone one as heavy as a Rivian, can...
If so that's in the ballpark of 30mpg which is about what I'd napkin'd out when thinking about a similar setup. Someone just needs to make a 5.2kW generator that fits under the tonneau and we're in business!
This isn't any less true with an open diff than with an electric motor - an ICE vehicle with differentials has to detect and stop the slipping wheel via mechanical brakes.
The diff-based approach is just worse because it relies on mechanical intervention via the brakes and has extra layers of...
Snow mode won't do the stuff you see here, because the stuff you see here isn't anything you want the truck to do in regular driving. Snow mode is designed to give you traction, not donuts.
Also, that's not snow, that's slush. Rally/drift mode would probably let you put on a show a lot like...
Citation needed? This feels totally wrong. There is nothing about quad motor that should make it more likely to slip. Quite the contrary, a differential is going to naturally send torque to the wheel with least traction and needs mechanical braking (or lockers) to mitigate that by braking the...
I get this in the winter when there's crud on the rotors which accumulates and/or freezes. Had the same thing on my Teslas and sure enough, the R1T started doing it after a few ski days. Don't think it's anything to worry about.
Correct, you only need one for home tire changes or a 5-tire rotation. But you'll need 4 if you want to take it to a shop with a lift for e.g. seasonal tire changeovers or a 4-tire rotation.
M8 bolts worked well for me. Roofnest recommends these ones: uxcell M8x16mm Hex Bolts, uxcell Hex Lock Nuts.
For the MaxTrax, I am using Rivian's crossbar mount - the diagonal channels made it super easy to mount to the side of the tent with M8 bolts at the right width. I really wanted to use...
