This is pretty silly. My R1T is 100% financed because rates were lower than inflation. Instead I put the full purchase price of the car into the market. Do you think I wish I'd paid cash? Absolutely not.
Joking aside, there's a ton of volatility and negative sentiment about the auto industry generally and EVs specifically (lots of press about supposed reduced demand, which really means "slightly less explosive growth than anticipated" in a sector where prices are extra vulnerable to interest...
At least judging from their privacy policy, they appear to use anonymized location data from their fleet. I'd be surprised if this wasn't also using licensed data from another source like Google but it's hard to say.
I won't pretend Tesla can't make improvements here, by the way - but I imagine...
This is at least a little funny because Tesla's Valhalla system uses Mapbox for its routing, and delivers millions of vehicles a year.
Like Rivian, Tesla uses Google Maps for POIs and a display layer, not for routing.
This is going to be highly subjective, naturally. I'll say in my experience the Rivian maps are perfectly acceptable 95% of the time, with occasionally silly behavior ("exit and immediately re-enter the freeway").
I see the same occasional glitches in Apple Maps, Google Maps, Tesla, etc...
Nobody should expect this to perform as well as a dedicated snow tire. It's necessarily compromised; it's an all-season compound, and the tread pattern and siping are designed for all season and all terrain performance. Proper winter tires have a winter-only compound (much softer) and tread...
This page hasn't been updated since the unveil. It still shows the old design, no wiper, structural exoskeleton, integral ramp, marble interior, that ridiculously photoshopped camping render, and other things that have been confirmed to be changed/removed/never existed. There's no chance in hell...
The reservation count is meaningless - that was when the price was announced at sub-$40k (it will be double that) and the reservation fee is $100, fully in "for the lols" territory, and there were no other electric EVs on the market. Now there are several competitive (arguably superior)...
This is a reasonable objection but I wouldn't consider it dispositive. I've worked at the intersection of product teams and customer support often enough to know there's a vast opportunity for leaping to "by design" post-hoc explanation of phenomena without actually closing the loop on the...
I'm old enough to remember when the entire forum was up in arms about how they were going to make us pay for a garage door opener (which they didn't), they'd never add more media options because they're going to push Amazon Music (amazon music doesn't even have an app), they hadn't shown the...
Totally understand the case you're describing and I don't disagree with the intrinsic limitation. I'm just skeptical that it comes up that often.
As a principle I like to avoid situations where once a side slip starts, it will continue until I'm doomed. The exact same thing would happen if you...
I've been very happy with the Bridgestone Blizzak LTs (275/65/R20), which fit on the 20s, are rated for the weight of the truck, and are available at most tire shops. They're a proper LT tire arguably better suited to the Rivian's size and weight than the OEM tires.
(Edit: And you can fit five...
FWIW I think the problems R.I.P. is calling out are most apparent in offroading or other situations where you're on a side slope - essentially the issue is that the quad motor is guessing at wheel traction until it actually applies torque to a given wheel; this can result in undesirable wheel...
Yeah, I definitely feel you on some of the constraints here. I was wondering if some amount of friction in the track "slots" could help - like a rubberized track (or a rubber foot on the door at the track interface or something) that could add a little bit of resistance and reduce the tendency...
