I charge from solar during the day so i limit my charging to 24A from 2-7 in the app. The car kept engaging at 48A and tripping the charger. I updated the app and now all seems to work. Hope this helps someone else.
@kozak79 any better efficiency on the gen2? Less vampire drain? My trade-in was pretty good but I do not have many complaints about my gen1..other than a speaker grill rattling..
As a w-2 employee I get very few tax breaks. So yes getting rid of credits that stimulate growth is a bad move.
And now local attorneys are suing installers. Small scale solar is great but it is about to get more difficult. I could not find anyone to help with off-grid so I went DIY
I started with a whole home quote that was 12kw and a battery for $50k. Based on my current bill it was a 15 year payback.
Really dumb luck. Also 15 with hurricanes I did not have the patience for 15 years and at some point I will need to replace my 70 year old roof.
I knew that the 12k...
Yes and no. Since this is DIY, I do not have the certificate of completion so I assume the IRS would reject my credit. However there is a credit for solar and battery so I may submit for $6k vs $8k. Also I could put it on my return and see what happens
10 panels - 1k
6000xp - 1500
Battery - 3500
Parts/materials/labor - 2000
I could have bought a bigger inverter but I knew I would not exceed 6000 watts on this off-grid setup. Also I am only charging at 25A so I am ok with the slower charging. All in all this set is sufficient if you drive less...
I have a 70 year old roof and I know it’s only a matter of time before I need to replace. At that point I will add whole home. I could fit a 12kw system and I can now save about $10k as my off-grid has battery backup.
My girlfriend drives a M3 and I could up the R1S charge to 85%. I have not figured out what to do when I am out of town. I may just turn the system off. Or I could add a transfer switch and run the house.
