  1. Loud rear clicking noise with quick acceleration 2023 R1S Quad

Yeah...don't do this. With the suspension in high the CV angles are not optimized for power delivery. There's a reason you only get full power in Sport mode with suspension in its lowest setting.
  2. WFTV - Florida woman can't get out of bricked R1S for 45 min. PSA: check your emergency release access panels

TL;DR, person never read the manual and didn't know about the manual release that *all* vehicles with electronic door latches are required to have. Even the C6 Corvette back in the 2000s, which may have been one of the first vehicles with electronic door latches, had a manual release for both...
  3. Manual Preconditioning of the Battery to Improve Cold/Hot Weather Efficiency

Truth. But also, what I said just above your post about using the waste heat from charging to add some heat to the pack closer to your departure time.
  4. Manual Preconditioning of the Battery to Improve Cold/Hot Weather Efficiency

Honestly, for wintertime driving your best bet is probably to just delay charging until it would finish shortly before your need to leave, assuming a predictable schedule. I really wish Rivian would add a charging for departure time option...my MINI Cooper SE had it and it was fantastic. The...
  5. Battery preconditioning high scores.

It takes *far* longer than 5-10 minutes to precondition the battery, but depends on the temp you started at. Rivian's strategy (or hardware limitation) appears to start preconditioning upwards of an hour out from a charger. That's the same whether it needs to heat or cool the battery...but the...
  6. Battery preconditioning high scores.

Gen1 Quad uses a boatload of motor heat to warm the battery in the middle of winter while preconditioning to a charger.
  7. The efficiency history gauge is propaganda

Probably the same reason they stupidly max it out at 4 mi/kWh when it's pretty easy in the mountains to see far more than that.
  8. The efficiency history gauge is propaganda

Someone sure has an axe to grind for some reason. With the old outdoor package with RUS and 20" all-terrain tires I've had much better efficiency than 2 mi/kWh. Is it worse than that at 80 mph in the middle of winter, of course...but so is ICE efficiency in the cold and with varying road...
  9. ABRP is just not a good road trip planner

It's not intuitive, but it's gotten a lot better of the years. 100% ABRP is the best EV road trip planner available outside of a vehicle...and much of Rivian's planner is based on ABRP now. ABRP is far more powerful and learning some of its nuances would be quite useful, like changing...
  10. Rivian reliability is a problem

Once again, I'm even a CR subscriber and haven't gotten the car survey in over a decade. So I have no clue who the hell they're surveying, but this Rivian owner sure wasn't asked about their experience. Take their car stuff with a *large* grain of salt, because they suck at reviewing cars.
  11. Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings 2024 - Rivian last

I'd still love to know who they're even surveying on this. I'm an online subscriber and used to get the car survey, but haven't received it in well over a decade now. So they sure don't have this owner's opinions represented.
  12. RAN is now open to other EVs (starting with Joshua Tree Outpost)

Yeah, just saw on an official Rivian post that it was tap to pay from the app and sounds like a terminal as well.
  13. RAN is now open to other EVs (starting with Joshua Tree Outpost)

No word in the article how non-Rivians will pay. Are they adding payment terminals or is a mobile app change coming?
  14. Rivian Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Beginning Dec 13, 2024

Technically the SMS capability *does* make it worse since it's apparently not difficult to play man in the middle games, get a duplicate/replacement SIM, or spoof a a phone number to the effect that someone else could receive the SMS without you even knowing it was requested in the first place...
  15. Gen1 Software Instability? (2024.43.1)

So far it's been more stable for me. Apple music actually remembers what you were playing now, so it's actually somewhat usable for me now.
  16. Wish the speed limiter could be increased

We have two main sites, one is an old airport parking ramp and speeds are much lower while the other is an old NASCAR oval track with an infield road course. There are portions of the oval/infield where it's hard to put any elements to slow folks down a lot and 70 was pretty easy to hit if you...
  17. Wish the speed limiter could be increased

I've certainly hit 80 or so in my former Corvette, but that was very rare where topping out at 70 was more common. Powerful cars are fun for autoX, but still more fun if you can actually pull greater than 1G, which big/heavy vehicles won't, though tires are certainly a limiting factor for...
  18. Article: Elon Musk’s DOGE partner Vivek Ramaswamy says they’ll scrutinize $6.6 billion Biden loan to Tesla rival Rivian

Exactly. If they're actually serious (which I doubt) about increasing American manufacturing capacity they really can't be against supporting a domestic auto plant's construction.
  19. Wish the speed limiter could be increased

There is no autoX on earth where you need a raised top speed and for that matter, literally no one will be autocrossing a Rivian...at least until the R3 comes out. Now road course and drag strip would be nice, but you're never going to get this except in some geofenced mode. G2 tri/quad get a...
  20. Front Radar Sensors Blocked in Snow

Tried it...doesn't work. Big, flat surfaces and insufficient heat generated by any of them to keep the snow from accumulating. It's the most annoying when there is snow lying, but *not* accumulating on the road...only on the truck. So then you still can't use ACC even though the road is clear...
