Good news and bad news.. i'm starting to suspect the ability for batteries to withstand modest potential current draws is higher than the requirement for them to be "deep cycle"
See https://github.com/kallisti5/rivian-service-guide/blob/main/guides/low-voltage/12v-replacement.md#context
I'm...
Absolutely agree. Ohmmu is definitely the easiest DIY option today. However, I'd like more options than an OEM battery that's unobtainable 3rd party, and a single boutique battery vendor for my 85k truck :CWL:
Awesome idea! Glad to see those adapters working... though i'm feeling like...
Back on topic,
Here are the S00nish battery post relocators on the Cheap MightyMax AGM 12v, 18AH battery.
They need a steel 10mm spacer and a longer 20-25mm M5(?) bolt.
Ordered some hardware to see if these will suffice with some minor modifications.
The post ordering doesn't seem to matter as...
I'm trying to be nice, but this feels like it was written with AI :CWL:
So you're saying the Rivian's "take normal 12v batteries", but also you have never replaced it, or looked into replacing it... and take it to your Rivian Dealership?
So; tldr you haven't tried, and have no real...
Yup. It's such a weird design choice
Custom battery post position / shape
Reversed post positions
It doesn't matter as much on OEM since the terminals are "centered".
Deep cycle, but also high current requirements (OEM DCS-18UNC RIT is 180A burst)
I need to take a DC current clamp meter to...
Ok, I'm working on my DIY service guide, and having a hell of a time figuring out a reasonable solution to the 12V battery replacement.
Battery (BT19BL-BS with reverse posts hard to locate)
AGM https://fullriverbattery.com/batteries/part-ft230/ $$$
No go.. seemed like a reasonable...
Thank you! Honestly, Squeaky wheel is the only way we're ever going to get progress here.
I've picked back up work on my Rivian Service Guide now that I have around ~60 miles left of warranty coverage. If Rivian won't do it then i'll do it dag nabbit...
So, i've had my R1T since the beginning. A few observations:
2023 - Service wait times ~1 month, lots of customer satisfaction fixes. All the reps were *super* nice and helpful though which helped owners cope.
2023 - 2024 - Service wait times ballooning to multiple-month waits. All the...
Yup. If you want a service manual as an owner, please email [email protected] and ask for it... even if you don't intend to spend $2,500 a year.
Complain about cost, ask why they don't offer the manual to owners, etc.
Squeaky wheels and sun light are the only way these kinds of...
I absolutely love my Rivian R1T, and love the company. One thing has been bugging me though.
Rivian as a company is distant, nearly combative on right to repair. It feels like such a weird position
for them to take while consumer focused in pretty much every other aspect.
Here's my journey...
I finally started showing the 12v battery warning after around 60k miles, and 3 years.
Checking the built-in RiDE menu, "Low Voltage Maintenance Status" changes from 1.0 for healthy, to 0.0 for unhealthy.
Side note, there is a 12v reset menu option now in RiDE which is fun.. Ordered the...

Hi Zack, thanks for the feedback. There's nothing intentional behind it - this would have required a diagnostic tool to clear the error codes after 12v battery replacement. We are working on an in-vehicle Service menu that will make similar repairs possible by our owners in the future.
"
Thank you. Yeah, I kind of assumed production costs for them were probably inflated given the small CNC run. Keep in mind you're likely going to get a burst of orders though as soon as the 2022-2023 start failing exponentially.
Honestly, at the eye-watering price of $750 for a service...
Sojhinn Any plans to offer a small bulk discount for us poor pre-2023 Rivian folks on the Battery post re-locators?
$58 + shipping for two is kind of intense for a few pieces of (well-milled) metal. I could buy another 1.5 batteries for that amount :CWL:
So, i've had my 2022 LE R1T for 3 years, 58k miles. I wanted to take a brief moment to review their service.
Pros:
When it's a known issue, Rivian is quick to repair and offer up free service under warranty for even small defects.
Window trim lifting, gear tunnel storage doors popping off...
Ah yeah, that's a big difference then. All 4 motors on the Quad run in All-purpose + towing. 2 motors run in conserve.
So I'm powering two more motors than a dual motor when in tow mode.
Hmmmm. A bit more food for thought. I have the R1T quad motor. I generally run this trip in conserve to use only two motors.
When in tow mode, i'm forced to use all-purpose which is quad motor drive.
I wonder if people seeing better range are dual motor in tow mode (which i'm assuming is...
