No, nobody is doing 1000 mile EV towing trips except for some very small group of travelers. Towing any real distance with an EV is a disaster...Stopping every 150 miles for over an hour to disconnect and charge then doing it all over again in an hour and a half is not ideal for just about...
My point is nobody is buying a Rivian to tow, of course they can tow. That stated and in detail, EVs are terrible at towing any real distance, pull through stall or not. Of course Rivian will advertise towing, I would too given the torque. But in reality all you can really do is tow a trailer...
The supercharging network will have much more impact on pulling that purchasing trigger then RAN. Nobody has heard of RAN, moreso know what it is. This alone is why Rivian should drop it.
Yes, you do assume what each person does with their vehicle, to allocate resources. An occasional tow here and there hardly amounts to anything. So a very small percent tow and need to charge but it's not enough to spend precious funds on.
But nobody tows with EVs. If they want to install some cheap L2 chargers at trailheads so they can honestly state they're an adventure vehicle (whatever that means, nobody really knows either, bad marketing), go for it. But easy and readily available DCFC is the core and they can't afford that.
So let's see, I put $$$ into a project that delivers energy to my customers, but I don't consider myself a energy reseller???
This isn't some hook Rivian is trying to create. They are not a Tesla either, in fact they had to wave their white flag to Tesla. Their RAN project isn't going anywhere...
BP is a huge energy company with huge sales and has been around since the silent era. They can afford the increased risk with these side endeavors they do. They can jump right in with Tesla or build their own, either way it will not bring them to their knees. Again, Rivian isn't in that...
Umm, yes they are. I'm sure they regret the buildout at this point. Spending a lot of $$ upfront to make a few ¢ a year isn't good use of the little $$$$ they have left.
None of the other charging networks have gone anywhere in terms of generating good returns, in fact they're hanging by a...
NEM 3 in California will not be very beneficial at all, it's the reason new solar installations have plummeted. If you do install solar to offset charging costs, you'll most likely need battery installation. You'll also need to include those cost with your EV charging cost for a better...
Rivian is in no position to try and solve the dcfc problem with their own network. Also overspending for a small percentage of your customers is insane.
I stated long ago the auto makers need to have their own proprietary network or form a consortium. The latter is underway with the SuC...
Rivian doesn't have the luxury of money to populate the country with their chargers that goes for charging desserts too. The charging business isn't profitable by any stretch and it's just a distraction. If they lose a few customers because they decide to drop RAN, who cares, it's better for...
Why would Apple want to get into the EV space? It would be a stupid move. They have the iPhone focus on that market, the EV market is ugly with much competition from all directions, such as BYD. Last, there's nothing proprietary in the EV space. Good for Apple to cancel their EV endeavor, it...
Ok so they had some parties and blew money on whatnot, who cares.
I'm sure Rivian is trying to find what they can get away with in terms of labor, to get to the most effective workforce. I also believe in Prices Law. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
I read with interest until the author stated "perhaps they deserve destruction, they hooked us on SUVs". Um, excuse me, they built the SUVs because that's what customers wanted. If customers didn't want it, guess what, they won't buy it.
I don't have time to go into more detail however I will state that the market has been correct the whole time. I understand there's those times when the market yells fire and it turns out it got it wrong. But the truth is the market is pretty darn good at sniffing out trouble ahead of the event...
I agree, but honestly that doesn't matter. It is what it is. Why is a chip maker worth 2 trillion today?
The stock reflects the outlook and confidence. Price action means a lot. In truth, Rivian is a blip compared to Tesla.
I don't know what eventually happens but when fan forums start to...
