  1. Black Friday @ OpenSourceEV Parts

Sale is complete - thanks everyone for participating!
  2. 20" AT Tire Replacement - Yokohama Geolandar AT G015

I'd roll with the KO3s. I've had the previous KO2s on prior vehicles and they were excellent on and off road. Range will take a hit however. Others may have a different opinion, perhaps more up to date as I've haven't really looked at this in 2+ years.
  3. Apple CarPlay coming to rival Tesla

This is a lever that Tesla believes it can pull to increase sales volume. I wouldn't be surprised to see others like Rivian and GM follow suit. This provides consumers choice and that choice is good regardless of what you end up going with.
  4. 20" AT Tire Replacement - Yokohama Geolandar AT G015

I ended up selling the truck a while ago and moving to a Dual Max Pack setup. I'd say they were fine, but barely so. They are less efficient than the Pirellis and as they wore, they started feeling a bit soft, kinda like the sidewall tucked under a bit. I'd probably recommend something else...
  5. R1T Dead Last in EV Pickup Sales

Can confirm - it's more usable. Bed is huge. Range is huge. Google Maps is pretty great. Plug and charge for everywhere (including a Tesla, Ionna, EA) is nice. Lower load floor for the frunk is surprisingly convenient. Truck drives smaller than it should due to 4 wheel steer. Rivian is still a...
  6. [Un-Resolved again!] Why am I doing this to myself - long time Rivian customer close to giving up.

My dude - they need to either buy back your truck or replace it with a different one. I've been following your odyssey, and I think you've progress through being a patient customer to being on the verge of a poor sap. The likelihood of it being fixed so these issues don't come back is low...
  7. Apple CarKey delayed until after 2025.34 update

Having now owned a Silverado EV, I can say without question the unlocking / locking behavior of both of my Rivians was really irritating. It's only exacerbated by the fact that the handles of the doors are always deployed when unlocked. If I choose to leave a Rivian unlocked in my garage, a door...
  8. 3D Printed Hitch Receiver Box for tools / storage [STL files] + larger version update!

I have conflicting reports, unfortunately. The only thing that was consistent was that the extra length didn't amount to much. At the end of the day, I wrapped the other enhancements into version 2.5: https://opensourceev.com/products/hitch-receiver-storage-box-v2
  9. I found a high-temp, high-strength 3D print filament that matches Rivian yellow

I feel like I need to be really clear on this because I don't want anyone to be misled. Rivian might have some sort of cabin overheat protection, but it's 100% best effort and should not viewed as protection in this case. Surfaces throughout the interior (and likely towards the top) vastly...
  10. I found a high-temp, high-strength 3D print filament that matches Rivian yellow

I've been looking at this as well. From what I've seen, it holds up good, but not quite good enough for a hot interior in a hot climate right off the printer. The number that you really need to look at is the temp with 1.8 MPa, which is a light load or under tension, like with the glasses shown...
  11. Work In Progress: Charging and Cooling Pad Replacement for Gen 1 Rivians

We will not be adapting this, or doing any additional development of this idea, unfortunately. If we would have continued, we would have formalized the cabling for this to support our USB kit that requires zero soldering, shrink-wrapping, etc...
  12. Center Caps by OpenSource EV

I have a policy against editing reviews, but I can say that my testing has shown this to be inaccurate. It's likely close to 5-10 miles difference over an entire max pack 100-0% drive which is about half that.
  13. Center Caps by OpenSource EV

Me too, man. It's really silly that something like this are required to make that happen. They have very little difference. I done testing aero covers installed / removed at one point (there might be a post from me about it) and identical trips on the same day had near-as-enough identical...
  14. D.C. R1T DOT Fleet

My understanding is that they have quite a few of them, or will shortly have quite a few.
  15. How big of a deal is “clunking” as R1S dual motors engage/disengage?

100% a thing. As soon as you notice it, you won't be able to stop noticing it clunking. For me, it was exceptionally noticeable when coming to a bottom of a hill and starting to accelerate up the other side. 100% clunk, 100% of the time, and it seemed to get worse the longer I owned the truck...
  16. Hot take: Google Maps is not really much of an upgrade

This is a really good point, especially considering how they have a competing product already. I've used it in my Silverado and it's pretty good. Here is an overly long, rambly video about it:
  17. 2025.22 Update - Official Release Notes (Now With Google Maps Navigation)

I've felt since the beginning the the nav portion of the system was always a bit of a weak point. Directions weren't quite right. Traffic data was unreliable at times. The inability to click on POIs was a letdown. We'll know for sure when the rubber hits the road, but this move to Google Maps...
