Got shop access about 4 weeks ago. Taken away about two weeks ago. Have heard squat.
Thought that was a good sign.
Have heard...
I just ran 6awg in flex metal cable. It should be ok at 48 A. It is rated at 65 A at 75 c . Despite that as an added precaution I may set my charger dip switches to 40 A. As many have pointed out here if it take 5 hours to charge or 3 it makes no difference to me between midnight and 6Am, and...
My 18 year old SUV will cost more to maintain than it’s worth.
I wanted to have an electric suv that looked like an SUV.
Wanted 4motors 4wheel- this had it.
Don't want to go to gas stations- wake up charged for pennies.
Dont want to pollute-
took a test drive.
please pick any three
I have often wondered why a simple simulator of the main screen could not be posted on the site. Would seem a good way to become familiar with the menus.
Super helpful! I plan to use 1" flex pvc for 3x 6awg and a ground Likely 8 AWG. One will be an unused neutral which will not be live unless needed in the future. This should far exceed minimum requirements.
Thank you again.
Our replies overlapped . Thank you again for you responses. So yes 6AWG and THHN in conduit.
Does flex pvc or other conduit affect these ratings?
Thanks in advance !!
Rivian wall mounted hard wire charger specifies 6AWG. Some have said that 4 AWG will fit in the connector, but others have said that 4 AWG in a 6 AWG specified block is not correct. 4AWG would end this discussion for me from a rating and ampacity standpoint but is not consistent with Rivian...
Omg that was an amazing response !! What will it take to bring you out of retirement? So how would you set this up ? What awg ? based on the Rivian charger if it were you're home. Without doubt I would be checking the ampacity and temp of all components.
Thank you for your help.
I appreciate your concern. Just trying to find the safest path that fits in the charger. Will likely be 6AWG THHN in 1 inch flex conduit. New CH Breaker. Thx
Thank you for keeping an eye on this thread. There is a ton of confusion over this not just from owners, but some electricians as well. Seems many are charging with NM/romex and may not know it is limited to 55A.
My 60 A breaker will be new and should exceed the 90 c rating. My run is 33...
Here I go again,
Electrician asked me to speak to his supplier to clarify wire size. Supplier says 6AWG THHN is rated to 55 ampacity and for 48 A charging I need to go to 4AWG.
Here on the forum people have said that while the charger block may accept 4AWG The connection block is spec'd for...
Thank you Mike,
The charger install will be hard wired. People here have been extremely helpful. The run will be THHN 6AWG, The conduit to be determined.
Thank you Zoids,
Yes I will likely run a future proofing neutral and definitly a dedicated ground. Conduit/flex not sure yet. My run is short but will have about 4 bends. Sub panel up then right/left/down/back of charger.
Thanks Supernu8,
Yes the consensus is 6AWG THHN -- the type of conduit may depend on what my dealers have in stock. I was thinking 3x 6 AWG leads plus ground in case a neutral is ever needed in the future, but I know of no EVSE's that require a neutral.
