Looking at Nokian R5's for the winter. I will need to get wheels to go with it. Is there any reason to go with 20" over 22"? I know for snow, narrower is better, but both would be 275 width. Any other reason to go with 20", other than likely lower cost?
Hakka is a snow tire, and based on the tires considered, I’m guessing they were looking for a tire they could run yearround but still get solid snow traction. I’m in the same boat for when my Pirellis are worn out.
Interesting. DIdn't know Apple Maps would get SoC. Pretty cool. Of course, route planning is more than just SoC and miles to destination... There are a lot of variables about the pack condition, pack temp, ambient temp, mountains on route, average speed, etc. I'm not saying Rivian's route...
There may be Tesla folks who pine for it, but I've never seen "I'm never buying a Tesla until they get CP" crowd the same way they've come for Rivian. The GM situation is the same - they could've integrated Google and still kept CP/AA support. They chose not to.
I'm sure some of it is $$...
People don't get it. You don't just snap your fingers and have CP/AA "integrated" into the vehicle. It needs development time to enable it. And Rivian is not going pay for their developers to spend time doing that right now.
All of the hate around not having CP/AA - I just don't get it. I...
It has to be in the rear for the R2/R3 platform. This is not a towing-focused platform. It’s a low-cost, mass market platform, and there will be low cost, single rear motor variants eventually where starting price is critical. Having the charge port in the back minimizes unnecessary wiring to...
Ah. Sometimes that happens with UPS when they get the tracking info from the shipper before they have the package. Should get updated once it’s in hand with UPS, hopefully a day or two.
Delayed?! Please say more!
For me: VIN 11xxx, delivery 11/22. Got email that it’s ready to ship on Monday (7/22). Hasn’t shipped yet and not showing up in order history on Rivian.com.
If you option up an R1S with Dual Performance Max, with most of the options, including the electrochromatic roof, premium audio, and air compressor, it'll be $103k, and still won't have the new Storm Blue or interior color choices that you can get on the Tri Max for $109. That seems like a no...
Yes, I was at this presentation by Brian Gase at the NYC space. Brian mentioned a couple times that there will be a spare, most likely compact. He also mentioned that there would be a rear wiper, though the concept model does not have one.
Yes, current R1's have cameras, 5 radar and ultrasonic sensors. Hopefully they add at least rear ones to the production version. Tesla's decision to remove everything but cameras has created some unnecessary clunkiness.
This was a good video. Helpful to see the interior size with him sitting in it.
A few other interesting data points that the Rivian team shared yesterday during a walk around: you can fit a laptop in the glovebox (presumably the right one); finished product will have a rear wiper (current...
We could not sit in the vehicle, but the doors were open and one of the Rivian engineers sat in it at one point. He was probably 5’10” and had plenty of room in the front. For the back, I would think the headroom is just as good, but it’s really harder to gauge headroom without sitting in it...
I saw it yesterday, too. It is much, much smaller in person than an R1S, but the interior space in the front and second row seemed very good. Second Row legroom seemed on par with the R1S. Obviously, no third row and less overall cargo volume (much smaller frunk). But if you only need 80% of...
I think it actually says "Adventurous Forever" - which is in keeping with Rivian's "Keep the World Adventurous Forever" tagline. When they opened the NYC Space, they gave out t-shirts that said "Keep New York Adventurous Forever." This appears to be a play on that theme. Very cool plate.
Would the frunk be a decent option? It’s not something someone could get into easily. I don’t know you’d even need the cable lock if you have it in the frunk.
Last winter, we had close to a week below 0*F, with a couple days around -10 to -16*F.
As others have said, efficiency gets killed at these temps in any EV. The Rivian was no exception. But the truck performed fine - cabin was warm. Other than the low efficiency, you wouldn’t have know it was...
