I had the car for one week before the update. I don’t recall it happened before. Now it’s happening every time if I come down non-stop.
This is plausible. Definitely feels like it’s hitting a limit because of the continuous high regen. I am wondering what will happen if someone drives down from...
this happens to me all the time even on < 70%SoC. I have a mile long downhill right from my home to the freeway and about 2/3rd way down suddenly I see this message Rivian give up regen completely. I charge my car to 70% so it’s definitely happening at or below 70%.
In my 1200 miles driving in 3 weeks, I’ve never got at or above 2mi/kWh for a round trip. I understand lots of energy now consumed by heating. Today, I went to a mountain pass and came back and efficiency is showing 1.65 mi/kWh. Total consumption is 24.7 kWh and distance travel is 81.5 miles...
I don’t know how Rivian does it but charge and discharge minimum temperature is different for Lithium batteries. You can still use the battery at -4F but to charge the battery it has to be at or above 32F. So, if your charging don’t deliver enough power to heat batteries 36F higher, than maybe...
Lithium batteries’ charging temp is 0C but use/discharge temp is -20C. So, battery heater has to work to heat it 20C more just to enable charging. So in such cold if you don’t really have access to any faster charging, maybe it’s better not to charge at all.
Btw, what are counted as...
It’s possibly common in ultra cold temperature. Lithium batteries can’t be charged below 32F (otherwise it damages the battery), so I am guessing Rivian was spending a lot of energy just to keep the large pack warm.
This happened to me couple of days back on a 6.6kw level 2 charger. Outside...
I am in Whistler right now, where daytime high has been in -5F to -1F range. I am noticing Rivian can have pretty high vampire drain in such cold. Last two days I lost 7% and 9% respectively where car was just sitting idle! Gear guar is off. I am guessing the car still need to warm up the...
Maybe it’s vehicle specific issue. They are using resistive heating so shouldn’t be impacted by outside temperatures.
I am in Whistler for last 3 days and even drove on -4F and cabin heater worked fine.
Since it is not out yet, I doubt the update will be available before January. Lot of engineers are possibly on vacation and Rivian possibly won’t take risk to irate customers with buggy update during holiday time.
By off road capability, power, and luxury, possibly yes. But for camping, skiing, and long road trips, Palisade has served me pretty well. IF R1S didn't have that interior capacity, that would have been a dealbreaker for me. After that I will think about luxury and fun.
Btw, one more thing. I...
I can certainly tell that cargo space behind second row (at least diagonally) is bigger than my Palisade. I can fit my skis diagonally where previously I had to use the pass through between captains chairs with Palisade.
but the second row legroom is definitely smaller! My 2 years old can kick...
Tried super z8 today on my R1S. I admit I am not the strongest person but that thing took me like 10 minutes to install. I had to pull really hard to to connect both the front fasteners. then the tensioner also need quite a bit force as well but still that’s quick.
I am waiting for the tire chains to arrive and might actually put it. I am going to Snoqualmie for last two years almost every weekend and few times to Stevens but never had to use chain with CrossClimate2 tires and AWD. But I understand Rivian is much heavier and act weird to stop with regen...
Wow! For four hours drive I need 7 apps then!! EVGo and EA for US charging. Flo, EC, and Petro Canada for Canadian charging. And ABRP and Plugshare for finding a charger ?
Heard about flo but haven't look into this before. So you can pay for many level-2 chargers with the app? Looks like it showing lot of chargepoint chargers as well.
I am planning to go to Whistler next week from Seattle area with my R1S. Distance is 228 miles but with AT tires and heating on, I guess I have to stop somewhere to top up little bit. Better if I can charge on Canadian side. I am thinking to find some level 2 charger there and top off overnight...
