Finally got around to doing a write up on the box and mounting kit
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/pelican-bx140r-cargo-case-install-photos-and-5-month-review.30613/
It's been about 5 months now. I'm still happy with the purchase and how the install turned out. But I do have a one complaint. The coating on the steel latches is becoming chalky from UV exposure. To the point where it's coming off on my hands when I open and close the box.
I went back...
Been meaning to do this post for a while now. I installed a Pelican BX140R cargo case on the cross bars over my bed back in February to store some of the smaller tools I carry for work. I purchased both the case and the mounting kit from Amazon for $438 and $227, respectively. I specifically...
Going back to the ball tugging argument, I totally get that everyone has their own opinion. And we're all entitled to our opinions. But opinions based on data carry a lot more weight (ha! See what I did there? ;)).
Here's some food for thought for all those that think pulling on a trailer...
Well, a few things could happen. The chain could snap. The ball could shear. The receiver hitch pin could shear. The sky could fall. But more than likely the tires would lose traction and spin. What exactly is a whole lot of pulling pressure? I think you mean force. We can make...
Oh crap. Forgot to add the disclaimer. The intent of my post was to share my personal experience pulling a stump in my backyard with my R1T. This is not a "How to Pull a Stump" tutorial. Do you own research.
If you're referring the vehicle recovery accident in Arizona, they were using a...
Well folks, Operation R1T Stump Pull 1.0 was such a success, I decided to go for round 2 on an adjacent stump (clearing an area for a much needed shed). Same setup as last time, except 2 minor differences:
1. Used a moving blanket on the chain as suggested by others (I don't think it was...
Well, as a professional engineer licensed in 8 states, and having spent the last 17 years in the field of structural forensics, I can say with 100% certainty ain't no issue with my balls ⚾
Ugh just watched this video. Tragic :(. I did see that the ball didn't shear. In this case, it was a (very large) drop hitch that failed, almost certainly due to the massive bending moment that was induced on it.
Again, anyone thinking about pulling a stump with a vehicle, please do your...
Good advice.
I do think it'd be wise to point out this is an example of an extreme outcome of a slightly different situation (vehicle recovery vs. pulling a stump). There was no one behind me. And I took a pretty gingerly approach to my pulls. Regardless of setup, if you go HAM, expect some...
Here's a photo of how I rigged it. Grabbed a large root on the backside of the stump.
I did tear up my grass a bit when all 4 tires spun on my 1st attempt. Unlike the hair on my head, it'll grow back.
Just FYI, for all those folks watching this and thinking of all the things that could go...
Hey y'all! This seemed like the best place to post this. I needed to remove a tree stump from my back yard. Instead of renting a grinder, I decided to yank it with my R1T.
1st Attempt: Minimal digging and cutting of roots on the backside
2nd Attempt: Spent about 45 min digging and cutting...
