Nashville location confirmed! Downtown Franklin. Looks like they're still having back and forth with the City for the construction permit. Permitting website: https://franklin.idtplans.com/secure/project/?projectid=608914#expand=608915,702081
Thank you! Great to know. Fwiw, the Memphis location is supposedly going in at 6936 Appling Farms.
Also, have you joined the Rivian TN Facebook group yet? Search “Tennessee Rivian Owners” I try to post various updates there (including yours :)
I would not count on add-on battery packs. The logistical and engineering challenges of a battery pack that weighs hundreds of pounds is enough. 300 range mile is more than enough to get you between the ~100 mile distance between fast chargers today (Electrify America has built their network’s...
@azbill summed it up well. Adding CHAdeMO plugs to each charger does not reduce CCS plugs. Many vendors include both plugs by default (for now). Some even allow simultaneous charging from both plugs.
This all depends on the charging equipment manufacturer. In the grand scheme, adding a CHAdeMO cable to each charging station is not a huge expense and it may be easier for us to specify both plug types. For example, this Chargpoint unit includes both CCS and CHAdeMO plugs by default. You have...
That's correct, we don't have specific locations yet but we established that corridor map to guide the location of chargers. We'll be working with local power companies along those corridors to identify ideal locations, sites, and hosts.
Thanks for the feedback about East TN! In fact, during the announcement we specified our goal to allow people to drive EVs "from the banks of the Mississippi to Mountain City." East TN can be a bit spotty, but good news: there is a new 62.5 kW Chargepoint station along I-81 in Baileyton...
We analyzed this conundrum and came to the conclusion that we must support both CCS and CHAdeMO right now. At the moment, there are more CHAdeMO registered EVs (Leafs) in TN than CCS-capable EVs, so *not* supporting them would disadvantage existing owners who already purchased. That said, we...
I work on the team that developed this and I can assure you we're aiming for higher than 50 kW :) 50 kW chargers every 50 miles (Fast 50) is the the minimum to meet Federal DOT's Alternative Fuel Corridor designation, which makes us eligible for additional federal dollars. I agree that 50 kW...
Just wanted to share some exciting news for Rivian owners in (or who drive through) Tennessee. The State and TVA are working together to install 50 new DC Fast charging stations on highways and interstates so there is a charger at least every 50 miles :) The network will feature CCS plugs and...
