So looks like Rivian confirmed Canadian R2 pricing starting at $66,500 which is just slightly over the current US/CDN exchange rate -- a huge relief as I was worried these things might be pushing 100k by the time they reached the Canadian market.
Saw my second and third sightings on the same day (Tuesday) last week, within a few minutes of each other (in central Ottawa) -- an R1T and another R1S. Couldn't take photos as I was driving into work at the time, but it's interesting that I've now seen three in the last two weeks. There's no...
Saw my first one in the flesh this past Tuesday at a restaurant in Ottawa -- a white R1S, much like what I expect my eventual R2 to look like (I want a white or as light a colouration as they will offer)
I really doubt it will get anywhere near 90k even fully fitted-out, because one of its main competitors, the very popular Kia EV9, tops out at about 77k, and that's despite it having a base price almost 10k higher than the R2.
I know there's still 2-3 years to go before we start seeing R2 deliveries in Canada but was curious about Canadian pricing, especially as it increasingly looks like Quebec will be scrapping all EV incentives by Jan. 1, 2027 (great timing).
I'd assumed tacking on about 10k to the US price would...
No way to know at this stage, however LFP batteries keep ramping up energy density faster than Li-ion (I believe the latest CATL FePO4 batteries are now approaching 90% of energy density of Li-ion), so it would definitely make sense to keep prices as low as possible.
GM began testing Michelin's airless tires back in 2021 on Bolt EVs and the goal was for commercial availability to begin by end of 2024, so hopefully the lack of a spare tire becomes less of an issue as availability ramps up.
Submitted. Kinda gutted that the Quebec government just announced they'll be scrapping all EV incentives by Jan. 1 2027 (great timing) but am determined to carry on regardless.
