  1. Garage fit for R2 (vs R1S) - Height & Width Dimensions. Does it fit in your garage?

Does it at least stop if you resist it (R1 at any rate)? Our Volvo is like that: I can open the tailgate in the garage and grab it before it hits the ceiling and it stops when it feels my resistance.
  2. June 9 - R2 order invites, first customer deliveries and demo drives begin!

My similarly petty complaint is that I hate the light-colored airbag cover. If the entire steering wheel were black, I would consider the light interior, but the two-tone steering wheel just gives me the ick ;)
  3. R2 Jack Point Design - Potential Issues / Challenges

I think the issue is that the "exposed location" is smaller than the lifting block on many lifts and jacks. If you just used a regular floor jack there the bodywork surrounding the rubber pad could be damaged.
  4. We will know our R2 delivery by the end of June.

I feel like you're making my point rather than contradicting it. It's that 5-15k batch that are most likely to go to existing R1 owners if our conjecture is correct. The first ~2k or so are employee purchases, with some others likely earmarked for demo drives, etc.
  5. We will know our R2 delivery by the end of June.

Counterpoint: Early R2s are the most likely to suffer teething problems, and Rivian's service experience can be less than excellent. Far better to put those potentially troublesome early R2s in the hands of existing owners whose expectations are already set, and whose loyalty to Rivian is...
  6. Rivian Assistant Makes Siri Look Overqualified

Where are you getting that? As was already pointed out, the RAP 1 chip coming later this year is for autonomy, not infotainment. The "Gen 3 autonomy compute module" contains the RAP 1 processor, and is for image processing and self-driving models. So far Rivian has not communicated anything...
  7. R2 Manual Releases on All Interior Doors, But…

This is just totally wrong, though. There are MANY vehicles with flush exterior door handles that are still mechanically coupled to the door latch.
  8. R2 Manual Releases on All Interior Doors, But…

Tesla did it because they have frameless windows. When you open the door, the window drops a fraction of an inch to clear the weatherstripping, and when the door closes, the window is pushed back into the weatherstripping to reduce wind noise. This meant that Teslas HAD to have an electronic...
  9. Does anyone else absolutely hate the Rivian Assistant voice?

It's not just you, the Rivian AI voice sounds too stereotypically "millennial" to me, with her vocal fry and up-talk. I am expecting her to start every reply with "Yeah, so..." Now that I've gotten that off my chest I have to go shout at those damn kids to get off my lawn.
  10. Assistant Cannot Read Contacts

IIRC when I set it up there was an onscreen checklist (on the Rivian screen) that listed 3 pre-requisites to enabling text integration. On my iPhone I had to go into settings and enable an additional permission on the "Rivian Audio" connection. Perhaps there is another permission related to...
  11. Thoughts from people who have seen the R2 in person.

Just keep in mind that most of those impressions are probably comparing it to R1S, which is 2-3x more common than R1T. The R1T ride is much better than the R1S ride.
  12. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

FWIW, Land Rover Discoveries have had a passenger impact airbag since at least 2016.
  13. Borealis and Forest Green not available at R2 launch

I really hope you’re able to still get a launch edition with a day two reservation. Mine is also from the 8th. Might want to update your sig in light of this new confession! :CWL:
  14. Borealis and Forest Green not available at R2 launch

Maybe the purple and green paint cans were carried away by the tornado ;)
  15. R2 Highway Range at 70MPH = ~250 Miles (Modeled)

Many of the things that stand out about EV vs. ICE behavior can be explained by the huge gulf in efficiency between the two. An EV powertrain is something like 80-90% efficient, whereas as an ICE powertrain is more like 20-30% efficient. When 80% of the fuel you burn in an ICE just goes to...
  16. R2 Highway Range at 70MPH = ~250 Miles (Modeled)

What you wrote is true of ICE vehicles, but EVs do not behave the same way. While it may take more power to accelerate, EVs are able to recapture much of that when decelerating. It's the steady state power needed to overcome air resistance that is unrecoverable, and hence the main driver of EV...
  17. Would you go with 20" wheels or 21" wheels on Launch Edition R2?

That was an AI chat response, I give that as much credence as anything I made up on my own ;)
  18. BMW and Mercedes pulling back on Level 3 autonomy

That was my question reading this as well. A particularly laughable conclusion in light of the other big thread here about the lawsuits against Tesla for under-delivering on their "self driving" claims.
  19. Would you go with 20" wheels or 21" wheels on Launch Edition R2?

It Is? That's cool, that was a big reason I got 20s on the R1T. Where did you see that for R2?
  20. Would you go with 20" wheels or 21" wheels on Launch Edition R2?

The major difference in the R1 is that the 20" wheels are forged, while all other wheels are cast. That difference alone is probably more of a cost differentiator than anything else that's bundled with it. I have not heard anything to say that the 20" wheels on the R2 are a different...
