Neglected or not Gen1 was the best thing Rivian ever made. Have an early Gen1 that was clearly hand built and rock solid. Gen2 LFP we picked up last year is a joke for the price point.
Absolutely hate the LFP! It has not met expectations in any way. Fine if all you want is around town, less than 150 miles in moderate climates, flat lands. Itās not the proper battery for the premium price tag of an R1. Get the bigger battery every time. Would have paid more up front had I known...
Needs better/faster charging. Doesnāt look like thatās what weāre getting. Appears to be a car that would have done really well in 2024 when it was announced. Old architecture. No major stand out features that would make it compelling.
I was also somewhat influenced by Kyleās initial opinion of LFP being the better choice for charging speed and daily range. Reality just hasnāt panned out the way it should on paper. We also have a Gen1 NMC that has been rock solid and predictable. Itās surprising to see such a poor...
Have had several similar experiences where initial appointment was made as mobile and changed at the last minute to bring it to service center. I too am over 100 miles away and it basically takes away an entire day of messing around driving, charging, getting loaner, driving, charging etc. to...
Hereās another potential issue we just ran into today with our LFP. Not particularly cold, in the low 30ās today. Did not precondition and jumped in for a quick 10 mile drive. parked for about 40min and on The way home vehicle threw error code āCharging unavailable until servicedā. Got home...
We also have a Gen1 and do not experience dramatic range loss in the cold. We were fully aware of the lower capacity and LFP cold behavior being worse. But over 2x worse is unacceptable. Thereās also the matter of LFP calibration which Rivian has yet to solve. LFP simply isnāt the right choice...
Having the same issue. On paper the LFP sounds pretty reasonable. After a great experience with our Gen1, we decided to get the Standard to replace our other car and go all EV and all Rivian. The LFP experience this winter has been terrible. Going out and running basic errands around town drains...
Preheated in garage. 40 miles of running around town, no highways. 20 degrees outside. Lost 40%. This plus all the calibration issues and we are seriously regretting going with LFP. It barely works on paper and it really doesnāt work in real life.
Doubt it.
They will do what they need to do to sell more vehicles with the latest hardware that can actually run FSD.
Not interested in the whole Elon angle to any of this. It's a publicly traded company seeking profitable returns for shareholders at the end of the day.
Going to be pretty hard to mandate a technology that only one company is producing. Long way off from creating an industry standard version of FSD. Government mandate is never going to be the solution on this one! There will always be a choice to drive or buy old school cars and manually drive.
All those R2 reservation holders should take note of this. Rivian has already confirmed you are getting a āGen1ā R2 thatās going to quickly be left in the dust when they have capability to build new AI and LiDAR hardware.
If you need the vehicle, buy the best available at the time and be happy...
Iāve always hated this. At least let there be an option for those of us that care to turn off the auto 100% charges and manage it ourselves when we know we can drive the car immediately after charging.
At the very least, Iād like to see a notification that the car has charged to 100%. There...
We also have a Gen1 large. Much less range impact due to cold and the range estimates are reliable, consistent. No hesitation driving it down below 20%.
