That's fair, and I generally agree you can't expect full feature parity across generations.
But I think about this slightly differently.
What feels off, compared to phones or laptops, is the lifecycle and cost mismatch:
Hardware: 10–20 years and $50K–$120K. Software expectations: evolving...
I’m an early Rivian R1S owner(VIN 17XX) so about as “Gen 1” as it gets. Just 12 volt batteries, windshield, tires, and some early fitment issues so far in case anyone is wondering.
One thing Rivian has done exceptionally well is OTA updates. The vehicle I drive today is meaningfully better...
Got the latest SW update Friday. 12v battery warning Saturday and new batteries installed today for $830. We have a 2022 R1S with 46k miles on it. Just plan to budget about $200-$300 per year in 12v battery costs. About the same as oil changes, filters and other fluids on an ICE vehicle...
One of the things I love the most about Rivian is not getting 4 SXM “sign up” letters per month like I do on my other cars. They are too aggressive for my taste.
This!!! It appears to be cosmetic in nature. You don’t have to replace the whole side automatically. It’s all just expensive replacement parts. Do it the old fashion way.
My neighbor had a TV he liked go out. He took it to a TV repair shop and was quoted $700 to fix it by an “expert”...
Thanks for the great post and info. It’s the part at the end that kills me. Most any ICE vehicle can power a decent winch but an ELECTRIC adventure vehicle with a 135KW battery lacks this capability. It’s just crazy in my opinion.
I don’t want it to do anything. My point which I can’t seem to get across is that if it can’t get the simple stuff right what is it going to do in more complicated situations when using this sort of data to perform more actions in the future. As I said. Just a funny observation. Been driving...
Um. I know what it is. My point was if the car is using the same info to make decisions it might not be the best situation. If it were to use this info to drive itself it had better be correct all the time. Obviously it’s not. Hence my comment.
I happened to look at it while sitting at a...
So driver plus is not auto drive. It only works in one lane and now we know why. Cuz the car doesn’t seem to have a damn clue what is going on beyond that. I guess it must look okay to you.
If this is how my R1S interprets this situation I’m am super thankful there is no real auto drive! WTH. Gotta do better than this.
A car in front of me, one beside him and finally a car next to me. Everyone evenly in their own lane. This should be a no brainer. Still can’t figure out why...
