I think they're still quite far from hitting max R1 capacity. They can do 57k R1 on two shifts, so 85k would be max capacity on 3 shifts (when they did the factory refresh they said they were taking R1 capacity from 65k to 85k). R1 for this year is probably <40k units (50% capacity) if you...
Agree that you shouldn't expect too much annual growth from vehicles priced in the 70-100k range. But it is Rivian themselves who built capacity for and targeted 85k unit sales across the R1T/R1S and are now in a tricky spot as that level of demand has not materialized.
Trump seems to want to take away the $7.5k EV purchase/leasing credit so I think it would make sense to get ahead of that if possible. Does anyone else feel the same way, or is that just fear mongering?
Does this mean the RivianRoamer site lists the minimum amount of inventory? As in each unique configuration is listed only once on the site (but there could be several in actual inventory)?
It does look like Rivian has overcome their production difficulties given that inventory is up close to +100% YoY per RivianRoamer. However, that could be a bad sign regarding demand.
I am surprised they disclosed updated R2 reservation numbers. RJ said in May that they wouldn't do that anymore:
“Different than what we did on R1, we’ve taken a decision to not disclose where we are in terms of reservations. It causes a lot of churn and noise from a customer point of view...
Not a bad price at all. I wonder if Rivian is paying an outside installer or doing it in house. Maybe they have their own dedicated team for it now that it is becoming more material to the business.
Agreed. The Model X with full tax credit is ~$70.5k, roughly 15% cheaper than the $83k large pack that gets you comparable range.
The R1S might be differentiated enough (full 7 seater, boxy shape) that buyers won't care but to me it seems meaningful.
Seems like no major changes to pricing, except the max pack now costs $14k vs. $19k previously. But that's offset a little by the R1S base model costing $1k more than previously.
Have any post-shutdown R1S/R1Ts hit the shop?
The factory has been reopened for ~3 weeks so they must be making some by now.
That said, my pet theory is that they are building up inventory of the "refreshed" vehicles but not releasing them to the shop until they do an unveiling event in June.
The Cybertruck still has a backlog like Rivian had last year, and the Lightning covers a much cheaper range of price points.
That said, the R1T sales number does look rough.
Has Rivian started accepting new R1S/R1T orders again?
Seems to bode well for demand that there is record low R1S inventory (~20 units in the Bay Area), although part of that is likely due to a slow ramp-up post factory shutdown.
Agreed, it's amazing how attractive the R1S lease rates are. What was your residual?
For the same amount of money down ($7.5k) and annual mileage of 10k, a $78k Model X costs $1,150/mo. to lease for 36 months vs. $700/mo. for a comparably priced R1S.
Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite...
I'm surprised they are calling you. From Rivian's (financial) perspective, wouldn't it be best to try and minimize the number of pre-price hike reservation holders who purchase vehicles before September given the 20% discount?
I believe they said that they had a couple thousand vehicles from Q1 that were completely built except for one remaining part that they would get in Q2. So even though the factory is technically shut down right now, they might be finishing those off.
Largest number of R1S in the shop I have ever seen at ~250 units (2x last week's figure), and over half are sub-$90k.
Great to see that more people can finally have access to the lower priced trims, although I wonder if it indicates something about demand. It could also just be a temporary...
The R1S is by far their most important vehicle right now. R1T/EDV are sideshows.
What's more interesting to me than the Ford news is the doubling of R1S shop inventory to ~250 units this week. I think R1S demand should be the biggest driver of the stock (along with margin progression) until we...
