  1. unexpected "opportunity" to be all-EV family

Thanks for all the excellent feedback. Short version of the outcome - we are now a two-EV family, with a Hyundai Ioniq 5 as a companion to our Rivian R1S. A slightly longer version in the event our experience is useful to anyone else, as all the previous comments in this thread were helpful to...
  2. unexpected "opportunity" to be all-EV family

Ha! Solving the two-body problem with two Teslas, nice! I interpret sub's comment to be what I requested -- I asked for advice. We are all products of our own experience, and to be fair the post starts with "Personally". In any case, good to hear your experience, too! The range on the...
  3. unexpected "opportunity" to be all-EV family

You all are the best, thanks! Encouraging to read the positive experiences of so many EV-only households, and it's good to be reminded of other options too. Also great to hear that there are several cases of 2 EVs sharing the same charger, or chargers that can support 2 EVs. We have some...
  4. unexpected "opportunity" to be all-EV family

We recently got an R1S as an refresh for my 19 yr old vehicle. Quite the upgrade. Our other car is only ~14 years old, so we thought we had a few more years. A few shudders and some strange accelerations this week, and we're facing a major engine repair that will be expensive and take ~2...
  5. Data Privacy

That is a freakin' scary story. I was seriously considering a Tesla because their privacy policy at the time seemed a lot more comprehensive than Rivian's. I may have missed it in the story, but it wasn't clear if those videos included customers who had explicitly opted *out* of Tesla's data...
  6. trouble installing cross bars

Good info here! I had my crossbars adjusted during a service center appointment. Since then I have left them on for ski season. I will take them off soon, and will try a few re-installs to make sure they are still ok. Nice to have some things I can check myself in case not.
  7. Colorado R1S Canvasback Custom Cargo Liner

does your set also include the bumper flap? Checking the prices it looks like $279 for the cargo set, plus $60 for the side pieces, would be $339. The $40 bumper flap would get the total to $379.
  8. trouble installing cross bars

Hey all - thanks for the great suggestions and descriptions. I finally got the fourth double-click. I was trying all sorts of variations and I can't remember exactly what it was that finally invoked the right magic. I do remember I was on a ladder, pushing down really hard on top and trying...
  9. trouble installing cross bars

I got one (R1S)! It’s the best. Now I’m trying to install cross bars. That’s not the best. I get the cross-bars lined up. Instructions say there should be a double-click on each side to seat the cross bar in place. First click, no problem. Second click . . . lots of problems. The instructions...
  10. Tire Rotation Schedule

Very good, thanks for the info. Will have to look into the jackpucks and bottle jack options.
  11. Colorado Tax Credit

Helpful discussion. I hope to get the R1S this year, this thread inspires me to check the GVWR as a part of the receipt checklist. I was assuming the vehicle would be < 8500 lbs. The S is shorter than the T, but has more claptrap in the back, so I don't know how the weight will tip the scales...
  12. Tire Rotation Schedule

Well done, sir. What hardware do you use for rotations? There are several other threads about bottle jacks and lifts. I'd be interested in the DYI rotation (and winter tire vs. all season swap, with each on its own set of wheels) if there's not a lot of extra hardware I have to buy (and fit...
  13. Gear Shop Pricing Just Updated to Match Pre-order

Yes it does help, thank you! Fantastic.
  14. Gear Shop Pricing Just Updated to Match Pre-order

I went back to all the old emails from Rivian for my original reservation (from 2019) and the few configuration updates to check original pricing, and realized that the pricing was never listed in the emails, it was always in my account page. Blast. That means I have no record of the original...
  15. Colorado Checking In

Bummer about your tire. How Rivian treats spares is one of the headscratchers. I've got an R1S pre-order, but am seriously considering an extra full-size wheel/tire to bring on mountain trips. Just don't feel good about getting out of the backcountry on a donut. By standard AT...
  16. Colorado Checking In

Thanks for the pointers on the front license-plate holders, those look like good options.
  17. Colorado Checking In

Colorado Rivian owners - what front license plate solution did you choose? There's a thread on an adhesive option, I'm wondering about other options and how well they work (or don't work), especially now that at least some owners have had a chance to drive through a few seasons. (I'm an R1S...
  18. garage floor mats for R1S?

Congrats on getting your R1S! And, your experience is helpful to know for sure. Makes me think I'll hold off getting a mat until I've gone through a few snow storms with the R1S to see the effect.
  19. Latest EV tax credit status (as of 12/30/22) - summary by NYT

Great news to start 2023, thanks! Now I just need that R1S to show up before March.
