Yes, did the install myself. The worst part is the plastic panels, putting them back on. I ended up using "excessive force" with a rubber mallet to get the clips to reattach. Sitting them in the sun to warm up helped me a lot as well. On my truck, the plastic panels needed to deform a little bit...
@BeanEW and @Cte515 - thanks for the info about the sharpness of the extruded holes. I've joined the club with these running boards. There is no sharpness at all. I hate that the other brands say "R1T" or have other branding on them. I think these are best looking steps available right now...
For those of you that have these now, do you feel the extruded holes are sharp at all? Not worried about normal shoes, but curious if you think they'd puncture a foam based flip-flop.
What firmware version is your unit running? Maybe it didn't actually update. Also make sure it's set to allow charging to all vehicles. Mine is at 23.24.3-ba52398 (per the Tesla app).
For what it's worth for anyone that's still following this thread - apparently the issues with the TUWC have been resolved with a software update. There's some comments about it over on the the TeslaMotorsClub thread. I can personally confirm. I received my replacement TUWC today, and on a whim...
Someone over on the other thread at teslamotorsclub tested the adapter by moving it between a TUWC that worked and one that didn't. The built-in adapter was not the problem.
It look me two days to hear back from Tesla using the method you used to contact them. Took 5 emails of useless testing...
I don't know anything about the protocols or difference in standards, but Tesla used to sell a J1772 charger, and I don't think there were any issues with it. You can still buy the product at other retailers, but Tesla doesn't sell it directly anymore. It's my opinion that Tesla rushed this...
Update: They finally said they will send me a new unit. Just swap out the main body and return the old one to them. I wasn't given any information about how long it will be before it ships. The real question is what percentage of these units are non-functional and how likely are we to get...
Interesting. Perhaps because you were able to verify it worked with an adapter? I'm 4 or 5 emails in with support already. Lots of tests that I had already performed. Still no resolution. Last request was to provide a video of the wall connector after plugging in to the vehicle.
+1 for people who installed a $600 product that wasn't ready for release. I've factory reset the thing, changed the access control setting from the Tesla Pro app as well as the built in web interface (thanks to all the info provided here). It won't charge my R1T. What's worse is my NEMA 1450...
