You can watch the dash to see when brake lights come on. In my R1T gen 1 it is immediate if you take your foot off the accelerator or reduce acceleration at all.
I think more likely is that Rivian, like all companies will be negatively impacted by the upcoming recession and or stagflation, unless Trump backs off his stupid trade war.
If you have long downhill stretches then your Riv will use the brakes automatically when regen is not available. This can be switched off if you choose, but a heavy vehicle will accelerate if it’s downhill enough. You Will at least know when brakes are being applied.
It’s one of my favorite features! My golf clubs live in there in the Summer months. Ski gear is in there in the Winter (not skis). I sit on it regularly to change shoes, and I stand on it to wash and dry my R1T. Love it.

People who complain about their Riv are the squeaky wheels on this forum. People who have zero issues(like me) are unlikely to post about not having any issues.
I’ve had the R5 SUV, which I got for their 116 load rating, and they are better than the LT3’s I’ve had on other vehicles. The grip is similar but the R5 is quieter and longer wearing. Plus there is only 0.3% difference in height, so no changeover for size is necessary from my summer 21” wheels.
