Really enjoying this thread -- thanks OP posting, and to all the replies.
I've been considering making the same switch. I basically have the same setup (though an R1T) and seemingly the same requirements.
I've found that the OEM 21" do well off-road for my seemingly beginner / intermediate...
Something that the article omits (I believe) and something I didn't see any comments address (again, I might have missed it), is that in conserve, your FWD car also means that all regenerative braking happens through the front tires. So coupled with two tires doing all the accelerating, they're...
I finally think I understand why these videos are so long: The videos are tuned to match the expected charging length of current DC fast charging stops.
For example, expecting to charge for 20 minutes? Here, watch this 20 minute on charging while you charge. Expecting to charge for 40...
This is great! Thank you for all the details and suggestions.
As a SoCal resident, I recognize roughly the areas (Joshua Tree, Mojave Desert area) but would love to know where the first location is. Planning a trip in the coming month or so and checking out new locations is always a goal.
Earlier this year @Zoidz wrote this post explaining the math behind why the top speed is likely limited by the maximum motor RPM specs. If true, a software update isn't likely to unlock a little somethin' somethin'...
Having read the comments, I'm excited to get back to my updated truck waiting at the airport.
Given the breadth of reactions so far, I'm surprised Rivian didn't take this opportunity to do a "Stiff, Medium, Soft" option or at least add "softest." I used to switch to Rally mode on bumpier...
I have two dents in the front row pillar tweeters. I think this might be part of the design. I had the same reaction until I realized they're symmetrical :-)
I love reading the responses and perspectives. What's very clear from the responses is that "adventure" is whatever you want it to be.
I answer the question "yes" - but there are probably other vehicles that are perhaps more "adventure-y" in the off road sense. For me, it checks so many boxes...
Although this wasn't a scenario asked about, I charge at 32A (~7kW) at home. One of the convenient side effects of this throughput is that I add ~5% SoC every 1 hour. This makes for a very easy, poor man's departure timer: I figure out when I want to leave, count back the number of hours I...
From what I've read on other posts where folks are seeing high degradation/wear - conserve definitely chews through the front tires - see fellow forum poster here.. The other thing to consider is how aggressive you are with the braking. Braking - even in All Purpose - will put most of the wear...
I definitely can relate! I ended up doing full PPF on my truck (ouch, it wasn't cheap) and now I am less concerned about pin striping, and other light damage caused by taking the truck into the environment I bought the truck intending to visit.
Other friends tell me "it's a truck, just get...
Yeah, he is an employee. He does a good job of not letting on to that fact in the videos though (e.g., he has little complaints here and there) I think he worked on some of the wheel designs. I forget how I know this but it sounds stalker-ish.
I have the same issue. At first it wasn't a problem, but then after a bigger bump or two, the weight of my phone would be enough to pull the mount down to where the back bracket would come undone.
I solved it by putting a small bit of foam (with adhesive on one side) that I mounted to the...
A buddy of mine who works closely with Rivian has mentioned that they intend on building more 1st party accessories - hence the withdrawal of the Yakima tent (perhaps), we know they're re-working the kitchen, they've released the recovery board mounts, etc. I suspect there's more to come
Exactly. It's not that Porsche doesn't do regen, it's that they've managed to have the brake pedal handle all forms of deceleration, and they do it really well. I think they target/estimate ~80% of all deceleration via the brake pedal is done via regen.
A friend of mine that works closely with Rivian mentioned that they are trying to getting into more 1st party accessories. He specifically mentioned this when I was talking about tents. We'll see if that's the case or not, or if they decided to scrap all these things - kitchen, tent, shuttle...
Odd. This article has been on the website for a long time. I currently don't see any version of it on the stories.rivian.com site.
If you Google "A moveable feast" you get something that originally posted July 1st, 2021 which takes you to this article.
I love when this happens! I, too, enjoy asking people what their range in their ICE is and they look confused and slightly puzzled. Almost as if they're thinking "hmm, I guess I don't really know that"
