  1. Rivian Update 2025.34 Now Downloading! - Upgrades / Fixes to Expect

I would be very surprised if R2 was significantly different from current Gen 2 R1 products. The cost savings are achieved through repeating the same manufacturing process thousands of times. The process Rivian refined in Gen 2 would be the system used in R2.
  2. Rivian Update 2025.34 Now Downloading! - Upgrades / Fixes to Expect

I can’t be upset about Driver+ and every other driver assist system in Rivians. I personally don’t find long distance driving taxing (aside from my tightening quads, which has nothing to do with automated driving). What I do find stressful is wondering when I might need to intercede while the...
  3. Well that was short lived - Cybertruck RWD discontinued

That’s why I’m rooting for Slate and TELO, and whatever Ford has up its sleeve. A light p/u is an ideal use case for EVs as heavy towing isn’t a usual requirement, and the efficiency of short haul, point to point driving is perfect for an EV. I’m thinking of parts trucks and delivery trucks, and...
  4. Well that was short lived - Cybertruck RWD discontinued

This may indicate how little faith Tesla has in CT at this point. While the company would surely get some incremental sales from a base $70K model, it is apparently sitting on substantial inventory of unsold AWD CT and they must sense the public enthusiasm has fallen off the cliff. I remember...
  5. AT&T data—Has anyone had their R1 WiFi stream die

I realized I didn’t return to post the “fix”— the tech disconnected the 12v battery for a half hour and then reconnected. Note that this isn’t as much a fix as it is “what would happen if we did *this*?” In any case, works now and has for the past few weeks. Should this happen to anyone else...
  6. I "Icing" Still a Thing?

“Is ICEing still a thing?” Why—were assholes recently outlawed?
  7. Rivian Announces East Coast Rivian HQ to Open in Atlanta!

I understood what you meant but I also see the confusion. Unclear antecedents will trip a person up all the time. What you’re referring to is the factual reporting found within your aunt’s Facebook feed.
  8. AT&T data—Has anyone had their R1 WiFi stream die

That is the working theory, though the rep at the SC phrased it differently when the appointment was made.
  9. AT&T data—Has anyone had their R1 WiFi stream die

Yes—for some reason I always have a deep breath moment when doing the hard reboot, but it restarted successfully and didn’t solve the issue. A reboot of infotainment after the OS upgrade did sort out a small issue with the Google Maps though.
  10. AT&T data—Has anyone had their R1 WiFi stream die

The headline is a work in progress, but has anyone had the in-vehicle cellular data stream fail? Happened to me and now I have a date with the SC. SOS failed too, most likely because SOS requires the AT&T data connection. It’s been a week. I can get in-car services by using phone as hotspot...
  11. Rivian Announces East Coast Rivian HQ to Open in Atlanta!

This is factually accurate. EVs replaced the Prius as a means of virtue signaling in the eyes of conservatives. I’m 5 years back in SoCal after almost 20 years in NC, there was no charging infrastructure in NC to warrant owning anything but a Tesla until fairly recently. The lack of public...
  12. Rivian Announces East Coast Rivian HQ to Open in Atlanta!

Unlikely. The Irvine location isn’t random. The general area is home to several other car companies, so there is a talent pool. In addition, CA is the single largest maker for Rivian by far. The “ear to the ground” the company enjoys by being located in the heart of SoCal is key to maintaining...
  13. Rivian App Just Updated

Right. Should be “where your am.” What a bunch of maroons.
  14. 2025.22 Update - Release Notes

Nobody likes the bumper to bumper traffic congestion driving, the Mercedes L3 software handles that. In fact, that’s really all it can do. There must be a car in front of you, there must be daylight, no inclement weather, and the speed can’t exceed 40 mph. But it will work eyes-off in those...
  15. 2025.22 Update - Release Notes

If this set up works for you, I’m happy. Seriously. I simply can’t find relaxation when there is the constant possibility that the system will decide to quit, with the car “braking”—I use max regen and the disconnect of the car’s control over the accelerator makes the car feel like sudden...
  16. 2025.22 Update - Release Notes

Same. I don’t understand the zealotry for FSD among Tesla acolytes. Until we have access to L4 tech—where the auto mfr assumes full legal liability in the event of an accident while using their tech—I’m not interested. For all the talk about D+ and FSD allowing for a more relaxed drive, if I...
  17. Review of Lectron's NEMA 14-50 splitter (not compensated)

Came here to say I have the same Lectron charge splitter. I have a Grizzly-e which works fine with the R1T but refuses to release from my wife’s e-tron, so I have a robust travel charger for it. Since Grizzl-e outfitted my dispenser with their Yukon-insulated cable instead of the standard...
  18. Special RAN pricing for Rivians

Came here to say same—I didn’t see in the story that Rivian was charging a monthly “membership Fee” as Tesla does to tap into the cheaper rates. If one needs to hit the SC network frequently during the month, then the $13/mo may make sense. Otherwise, it needs to be factored into the otherwise...
  19. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

So your belief is the owner will pay (currently) $8K for the software, PLUS some form of up charge on a monthly or per-use basis to offset Tesla’s liability costs? Of course, some paid $12K or even $15K for their software, so they’re going to be sensitive to the addition of fees when they...
