Yes, but it only unlocks the vehicle (when it works) it does not lock the vehicle. And proximiy locking must be turned off. Why, I have no idea. So the only way to lock your vehicle would be to go through the app...

- They said there is definitely something wrong with my lock/unlocking and think it might be a fault door handle (because thats where all the tech is housed)

Just wanted to share my experience here. I got the car 2 weeks ago (gen 2 R1S) and dropped it off today because of 3 issues:
1) My rear cross warning sensors dont work (not sure they ever worked)
2) My proximity lock/unlocking does not work appropriately (need to wake my phone to activate it)...
