just got a call from collision repair. apparently there is a wiring harness in there and it had sagged down and was pinched between the plastic and a hardpoint when i bumped the post. they are replacing the entire rear black plastic and 1/3 of the metal applique which is the metal piece...

the bump in scuff was my fault so cosmetic damage is on me. the placement of sensitive electronics (whatever that may be) should be on rivian. bad engineering/design. i added the govt regulation to stress the poor engineering should have been caught during truck development.
