  1. Rivian vs Scout

I think your Rivian had build quality issues. That was/is unfortunately common. All it takes is for one connector with intermittent signal to cause chaos. Those that are built well really don't have issues like you mentioned. The Scout will still be heavily software defined. But it will be on...
  2. Charging at Rivian Adventure Network with Pet comfort on a hot day

The message just said it was charging slower. That does not imply that you must turn off the climate control. There is only so much cooling capacity that has to cool the cabin and the battery pack. If it's hot out and you are asking for a lot of cooling for the cabin, there is less available for...
  3. Rivian vs Scout

Remember a goal of the infrastructure bill and NEVI funding was to have DCFC every 50 miles. Hopefully, that gets back up and running.
  4. Mercedes vs Tesla Supercharging (which should I pick?)

Tesla V3 has a really small cable cooling system which means the cable will get hotter faster and derate sooner. The V4 is cooling system is much bigger. V4 vs Alpitronic, I'd say it's a wash on cooling performance. Personally, I avoid Tesla unless there is nothing else with 20 miles.
  5. RedECharge charging network - What is your experience? Using CCS to NACS adapter to R1T Gen2 - Failure to charge

I would say that A2Z is incorrect. The vehicle may get confused as there is something plugged into the vehicle, bit it can't talk to anything as the cable is not connected.
  6. Anyone else's battery always hot?

Nothing to worry about until the temps hit 140F. The bms won't waste power to cool the pack while parked.
  7. R2 Factory Window Tint Level % - Measured Values (All Glass)

I'm a huge fan of 3M Crystalline. I use 90% on the windshields of two of my cars. No one ever thinks it's tinted and it does a great job rejecting IR. Many people like to use 70% on the windshield, but some people will catch that as being tinted.
  8. Pet Mode for R2 coming in next OTA update 🐾

If they are laying off people, that's a pretty good indicator they aren't hiring except for any essential positions where they don't have existing personal. As they already have a software team, though lean, they have people with the expertise to do the tasks. The timing will just get pushed out.
  9. Pet Mode for R2 coming in next OTA update 🐾

It's an indication that Rivian is people resource limited. They did just have another round of layoffs.
  10. My "adventure truck" was destroyed by suncreen...

A buddy of mine worked at Apple back in the day. One specific sunblock, I think banana boat, would damage the screens of iPhones. Chemicals will damage various materials.
  11. Rear Brake rotors - casualty of high regen.

What your pictures show is very LITTLE rear brake use. Because the rear pads are barely ever touching the rotors, they rotors are not getting cleaned up of surface rust and contamination. With an EV, it's a good idea to go do a hard stop to engage the mechanical brakes every so often. For my...
  12. Explain to me like I’m 5…is software really that hard?

Remember that R1 launched with only a fraction of the functionality that it has now. Camp mode, dog mode, 360 camera, car wash mode, gear guard, etc.... these are just a tiny fraction of features added over the air after the vehicle was launched.
  13. Explain to me like I’m 5…is software really that hard?

Why is it embarrassing? Software requires some finite hours of work to get it completed and also to get it done correctly. There are only so many people and so many hours in a day. You saw Rivian just laid off more people right? So, that already tells you they are people resource constrained...
  14. Explain to me like I’m 5…is software really that hard?

Yes. VW spent around $15 billion on CARIAD for vehicle software, couldn't get it right, and gave up and is now paying Rivian billions in the joint venture.
  15. Finished R2 demo test drive? Share your review / impressions

Keep in mind, the cabin is designed to be water tight while fording water as part of being an adventure vehicle. That requires really good seals on the doors which does make the last one harder to close as that's basically sealing off the cabin.
  16. Rivian planning dramatic expansion of RAN charging network

They are working on a next generation power cabinet. I imagine they are holding off on rapid expansion until the new hardware is available. https://eletric-vehicles.com/rivian/rivian-plans-power-cabinet-2-0-to-spur-big-inflection-in-charging/
  17. R2 vs midsize SUV- need by June

I'm assuming the new car is for you and the teen is getting a hand-me down? For you, I'd buy a used beater to hold over until you're called up for a R2. I had a 2016 Mazda CX-5, absolute base model, and I loved that thing. Over 8 years and 95k miles, I had to replace the 12V battery once, I...
  18. R2 Highway Range at 70MPH = ~250 Miles (Modeled)

This is actually easy to explain. Internal combustion engines are notoriously inefficient at low loads. At higher loads, their efficiency goes up (less throttling losses as the throttle body is open more, more heat energy goes into pushing the piston down instead of into the coolant/oil/exhaust...
  19. R2 Highway Range at 70MPH = ~250 Miles (Modeled)

K, I'm a bit more with it this morning. Assumed 250 miles at 70mph as the reference point to calculate a constant to bundle in battery capacity, drag, frontal area, etc. Plotted out. Of course, this is a much more simplified calculation which leaves out the details of linear scaling of rolling...
  20. R2 Highway Range at 70MPH = ~250 Miles (Modeled)

    I'm a bit sleepy, but check my equations: energy = power * time, ex. 100kW x 1hr = 100kWh time = distance/speed, ex. 50 miles / 100 mph = 0.5h energy = power * (distance/speed) distance = (energy/power)*speed Power scales with speed^3 and is in the denominator. Energy= battery capacity =...
