  1. Am I the only one who thinks anything less than 400mi of range is legacy at this point?

Yes, I think anything with less than 100 MPGe is also legacy. There are very few cars that hit 400 miles and above 100 MPGe An Air and an S. I think Gravity might be close. I ended up going with an X and had to compromise on the range. It came in #2 time wise (2 gravity’s in front) and #1...
  2. Tesla self-driving is so much safer, you get an insurance discount for using it

You can think that if you want. If it’s so bad why are some insurance companies offering discounts? My wife prefers I let it drive over me now. And no, I don’t do social media while driving. She just knows what it can do. It even avoids debris in the road now. And yes I do talk on the phone...
  3. Tesla self-driving is so much safer, you get an insurance discount for using it

I pay $1800 a year for 2025 Model X insurance And I way prefer FSD drive than myself now. More so on highway than around town. No question I feel safer it driving in many situations Most of my intervenes are due to speed. Also when I’m in unfamiliar territory with lots of ramps and turns. I...
  4. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

That Mega 5 is nice. But no Split phase either which is a shame. And who has 120V loads at 3900 watts. Not sure any Rivian will charge it at 1800 watts. That will exceed most 15 amp circuits for continuous load. You can’t backup most homes with it. Even with a boat load of batteries. Same issue...
  5. Is Charging R1S Overnight Required or Optional?

Don’t even think of owning an EV without home or work charging. You will hate it. With home charging an EV is more convenient than ICE. Without home charging it will be less convenient than ICE.
  6. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

Not really. A true 15A circuit is 1800 watts. There are tons of applications that have “15A” plugs that cannot deliver close 1800 watts. The plug does not define the supported wattage behind it.
  7. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

Sorry missed that it was a 24V one. Just try to get an idea on size. I suspect a 400V 3600 watt-ish inverter will be big and unlikely portable. But it could certainly be done. Main issue is what will make marketing sense. In many ways I suspect it’s cheaper to put it in the EV (no connectors...
  8. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

A big, Portable? 12kw DC to AC inverter for $1-2K. In your dreams. The internal options on EV’s like Ford Lightning is $3K. And because it would be big, the market for it being portable Shrinks. So you either end up with V2H solutions (big inverter mounted on the wall of your home and a bunch...
  9. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

Right, 3600 Watt inverter. J1772 is AC only. Here is an example 3600 watt inverter https://www.amazon.com/Xijia-Inverter-Charger-Converter-DC60-500V/dp/B0D62QY8VP
  10. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

That’s an interesting option. Digging around a bit I believe the inverter has to be in the EV. J1772 is strictly AC. But news to me, it does have a Neutral. So I think it could produce 15A 240V Split phase (maybe). But that’s why you get two circuits out. Great for camping etc.. But keep in...
  11. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

Most, if not all, V2H setups have NO inverter in the EV. It’s DC back out into an external inverter. Doesn’t add much cost to the EV because it just uses the DC charging path in reverse. That’s what makes it expensive to make your H (the H in V2H) home support it. As well as a gateway (transfer...
  12. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

V2H is excessively expensive and proprietary. You are talking $10K-ish installed. $7300 for just the parts from GM. Change brands and it’s another $10K Almost every EV says they will have V2H. A few do now.
  13. Is the 120v 1500w limit for the entire truck or per outlet plug?

You really should get a generator back feed setup. It’s fairly cheap and simple. You add one 240V breaker to your panel and you back feed it with a 30A outlet /cord. They sell interlocks for many panels that forces you to turn off the main to allow you to turn on the backfeed breaker. Like $100...
  14. R1S repair costs astronomical after a collision, Potential Buyers please do your due diligence

yeah EV totalling is a big issue with all EV’s. It’s hard to prove the battery has no damage. So even a $25K repair on $75k EV often gets totaled. It’s not always parts/time issue.
  15. R1S repair costs astronomical after a collision, Potential Buyers please do your due diligence

I had my 2019 Model X repaired from a deer hit. It was quite reasonable and was done quite fast. New hood, front bumper, headlight a zillion small parts. $6K and took like 2 weeks. I waited for parts to arrive before turning it in because it was drivable. But that only took a couple weeks. This...
  16. R1S repair costs astronomical after a collision, Potential Buyers please do your due diligence

I always laugh when I see “I’m going to be careful”. Oh, you’ll keep it parked in the garage. That might do the trick.
  17. R1S repair costs astronomical after a collision, Potential Buyers please do your due diligence

Not really. If they are astronomical to fix. Insurances rates will go up. Not because of your claim. Because it’s a big part of calculating insurance costs. So it is quite important to pay attention too. I have a Lucid Gravity order pending and that is a huge concern what’s it gonna cost to...
  18. Rivian work week reduced to 2-3 days until inventory comes down

It doesn’t help that I lost at least 3-5 Rivian’s worth between my portfolio + pending RSU’s. And those drops started well before Liberation day. The current administration thinks this is just a mild hit to the economy because of the ok jobs report. This is just the beginning of an avalanche.
  19. R1S Collision Repair Ordeal

Have you looked into a used door? I had a deer accident in my Tesla X. I waited for the parts before tear down. Didn’t actually take long. Couple weeks. But when they did tear down the headlight mount was cracked. $1200 and on back order. I hoped on EBay and had a perfect part number match in...
