I'm still imagining there must be some way to streamline my Airstream to make it even more aerodynamic, and add more electric components and larger battery capacity (maybe in the floor?), without having to purchase an entirely new product. Kind of an "E-stream Lite" version.
I was wondering if you had altered your 22' Airstream to make it more aerodynamic, e.g. removing/ moving the air conditioner, streamlining the underbelly, to get those great efficiency stats. I think I averaged 1.4 mi/ kWh towing my tiny 16' Airstream, although that included quite a few mountain...
Truthfully, I find some of the charging stops are my favorite parts of the trip (e.g. a nice conversation with someone else who is curious about towing with an EV )
Thank you so much for all of this detailed analysis! I have visited the Lightship factory which is just down the road from me, and am quite impressed. I have the Gen 2 R1S and did a 5200 mile circle of the western National Parks last fall towing a 16' Airstream Caravel. I generally didn't go...
I'll keep my 2025 Gen 2 R1S as long as feasible. I use it for both daily driving and for towing in the summer, and love its versatility. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the charging station infrastructure continues to improve, even given the current political climate. (My last long trip got...
Great info, although all the electrical jargon was above and beyond me. I didn't even realize that Gear Guard was on 100% of the time (must be a preset), even while my car is sitting in my garage - maybe that's to catch my husband purposefully ramming into my tailgate with the garbage can...
Can someone explain to me why the 12 Volt battery dies at just 25,000 miles, and then the replacement battery dies 15,000 miles later, when most ICE cars' batteries last for 10 years or more?
Great write-up! Thank you! I've been eyeing the Pebble for a couple of years now, and this is encouraging. I have been towing my 16' Airstream Caravel with my 2025 R1S, including a 7200 mile trip end of last summer. I also averaged 1.1 mi/ kWh and stressed quite a bit about range, especially...
Used the owl all the time until I was in a campground and it kept going off every time I walked in or out of my RV. Would love to have first notes of Beethoven's 5th - da-da-da-DAAA
I agree that it depends on the state you're in. California - no planning necessary, just enjoy the views, because there's a charging station about every 5 ft. Wyoming, not so. Charging stations are few and far between, with long stretches of nothingness. The state actively DIScourages EV's by...
I just finished a 7200 mile road trip towing a 16' Airstream Caravel, about 4500# loaded, using a weight distribution hitch. I have a 2025 dual-large R1S. I averaged 1.1 miles/ kWh, but that varied quite a bit over many different types of terrain. I had to charge every 80 - 120 miles (but I also...
I just completed a 6,700 mile trip towing my 16' Airstream around the National Park to Park Highway,(, plus a leg up and back to Calgary to visit my daughter and her family.
I logged $1725 in charging costs with 67 charging stops along the way that ranged from 0.13/ kWh in Calgary, AB to 0.79/...
Here is the RAN in Durango - right by the NEW REI store (spent way too much money there!)- with a drive-through-with-trailer charger that didn't work unfortunately. Had to wiggle my way up to, and out of, an end spot in the row of regular stations. But I'm glad Rivian is making the effort to...
I have serious range anxiety, so I like to try to get to the next charger with about 50 miles of range left (in case one charger doesn't work, and I have to find another, etc, etc, etc). On my recent road trip through WY (the windiest place on the planet!), I found that I could slow my speed by...
