  1. Here we go again - Solid State Batteries "just around the corner"

    LOL. ::Jennifer Lawrence "ok" gif::
  2. "New" 12V Battery Jump Start process update from Rivian

Did they not realize there's a pair of jumper cable connections directly to the right of the hitch behind that round plastic cover, making their trailer connector cable unnecessary?
  3. Here we go again - Solid State Batteries "just around the corner"

Huh? First, my dislike of Elon is not even remotely blind. It's based on quite legitimate observations of fact. Second, who in here has "refuse[d] to accept the technological advancements that Chinese EV makers are making"? I'm not even sure what that means in this context. Several of us have...
  4. What are the legal and financial issues involved with using non-approved adapter and it causes damage?

They've given no indication that they will, although it's a reasonable guess that at some point they are likely to do so. I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon. I think they'll start offering one in (late?) 2025 when they've switched the Rivian Wall Charger to NACS. It's far less critical...
  5. Here we go again - Solid State Batteries "just around the corner"

"Equipped with a solid state battery" ... for a flashlight that's in the armrest? Musk also said a Tesla would drive across the US without driver interventions and that the 4680 battery was a massive leap forward.
  6. Let's talk Tesla Supercharger parking etiquette...

Why didn't he use the charger directly behind his car? Or park in the spot directly in front of the charger he is using? That just makes no sense at all unless: a) the charger directly behind him is dead and he didn't want to move his car b) He didn't want anybody parking next to him so he used...
  7. Has Anyone Received their Rivian Tesla Super Charger Adaptor?

Rivian said it would email owners in early April with more information. They also said they will confirm your mailing address before shipping anything. This is at least the 2nd person in the last week who has thought, "Gee, I guess nobody's excited about getting the adapter, people have gotten...
  8. Has Anyone Received their Rivian Tesla Super Charger Adaptor?

Wow. I hate being THAT guy, but the rash of new threads on this topic is really incredible. Can someone create a wiki/FAQ on supercharger access and have the mods pin it to the top of the forum? And any new threads asking things easily answered on the wiki/FAQ just get merged into that one?
  9. 3D Printed Hitch Receiver Box for tools / storage [STL files] + larger version update!

It can be jumped from a portable jump starter, but the jump box has to be capable of sustained 12-15V 30amp output if it is going to fully "jump" the car into booting up the whole software stack and starting to charge the 12V battery off of the high-voltage pack. A shorter jump does seem to...
  10. 3D Printed Hitch Receiver Box for tools / storage [STL files] + larger version update!

I haven't seen any hard numbers, but I'm not sure there's enough space for battery capacity high enough to fully start the car and get the 12V charging off the HV. Just getting into the frunk or main cabin would be big wins anyway.
  11. 3D Printed Hitch Receiver Box for tools / storage [STL files] + larger version update!

A battery pack to get to the bigger battery is humorous, but 4 high-drain 18650 probably aren't fitting in that hitch receiver, are they? And you would need some way to string them together in series and then connect them to the jump leads. Don't get me wrong, this is a path my geek brain is...
  12. 3D Printed Hitch Receiver Box for tools / storage [STL files] + larger version update!

Wait... what are the batteries for? Just you being silly or do you actually use them for something?
  13. A2Z NACS To CCS1 Adapter Review

My guess would be a proprietary, unofficial-to-J1772, CAN comm over either CP or PE pin.
  14. A2Z NACS To CCS1 Adapter Review

It's different because you don't want someone to steal your portable charger. You're far less concerned about someone stealing an AC public charger.
  15. Service Center Raleigh, NC 2025

Tesla overcame it because they were grandfathered in by the NC statute. Edit to add citation: NC General Code § 20‐305.2. Unfair methods of competition; protection of car‐buying public.
  16. A2Z NACS To CCS1 Adapter Review

FWIW, here's what the User Manual says about chargers staying locked (or not) to the vehicle: With DC it isn't clear, but with AC there's a distinction between public chargers (unlocks when charging is complete even if the vehicle is locked) and the Rivian Portable Chargers (stays locked...
  17. 3D Printed Hitch Receiver Box for tools / storage [STL files] + larger version update!

Very nice! I don't have a 3D printer, but I would like a box like that. I literally just ordered several different pencil and small tool pouches from Amazon to test for this purpose! There are a couple similar concepts on Amazon and Etsy, but they have tiny storage compartments that aren't long...
  18. A2Z NACS To CCS1 Adapter Review

It's important information, so thanks for testing it. I hope Rivian gives us an option to leave a DCFC connector locked even after the charge is complete (and the vehicle is locked). Ideal would be having a different option for AC and DC charging because people might have different needs for each.
  19. A2Z NACS To CCS1 Adapter Review

I don't think adapter theft is very likely, but even if it's low-risk, it's high impact for anyone on a road trip that will rely on NACS chargers. I hope there's a solution to make sure it's not possible. Even if someone can stop a charging session -- they shouldn't be able to -- the adapter...
  20. Lectron vortex adapter (level 3 supercharger to CCS)

Yep, @Gee Bee That's the wrong way. You need "NACS to CCS" to go from Tesla supercharger to Rivian. The one you pictured is CCS to NACS, which allows a Tesla to charge at a CCS station like EA, EVGo, etc.
