I understand your point, and Rivian may handle it that way but there is really no surprise here. Rivian has announced that Lidar will come later. If you buy an R2 before Lidar is announced, you presumably are fine without a Lidar vehicle, even if the next guy gets Lidar for the same price...
What? You don't think that Tesla promised in writing that the hardware on the cars it sold were fully equipped to achieve hands free and eyes off self driving? There was no hint it was limited to Level 2. I was told in writing that my 2018 Model 3 would do that. I can't tell if you are even...
Yes, I am going to question the validity of the statement that launch editions will not include the light interior. My guess is they will make launch editions available until about the time that Lidar comes online. The launch edition gives people incentive to buy now and not wait.
I think the poster is indicating that he hopes his $14K investment into RIVN stock will eventually appreciated enough to be the purchase price for a new R2 in a few years. At least that's how I read it.
I am not saying you are wrong but I struggle to see the motivation here. Why announce that "next gen" hardware will be coming in 6 months when it's really over a year? The most obvious outcome will be that some potential early buyers will wait, whereas if they knew Lidar was 1.5 years out...
I don't want to open up a big topic on this but I am honestly curious. I own a Tesla (not a Rivian) and I don't miss or want CarPlay at all. I feel like Tesla's system is better than CarPlay. So the question for me is whether Rivian's setup is dramatically worse than Tesla's such that I would...
I configured the M Sport and mine was $73,500 FWIW. Admittedly not apples to apples. BMW gives you a few extras but R2 LE (at $60K, plus maybe $5K) has quicker performance (not sure on handling). That said, I wish the R2 had an option of a bigger battery/quicker charge even if it meant 10K more.
I prefer the looks of the 21s. But I much prefer the practicality and ride quality of the 20s. And maybe a slight preference for ATs over AS. So if the two choices are the same money (which I hope) then I will very likely choose the 20s. But if the "optional" 20s have a cost (e.g. $1500) to...
Yep, current owner of 2018 model 3, I paid for FSD but I'm on HW3 so I only have half of a working FSD and generally don't use it much. Looking forward to the R2 but I might just wait for the Tri-Motor version if I can bear it.
Yes, probably random. I am first month (but not day 1) reservation holder, not a current owner and on the east coast. But mine has the new "your R2 is almost here."
They have to paint every vehicle. So that means there should never be an upcharge for any color?
I think they idea of "Launch Green" is to have a special and exclusive color rather than a second option for free paint.
Same. Originally wanted the Tri but there are no details and LE is pretty good.
I want the LIDAR but I am willing to compromise on that for LE free goodies.
But if the light interior is simply not an option on the LE, then that likely pushes me to wait.
A bit disappointing if accurate. It was getting awfully tempting to go with the LE but this might move me to the waiting on Coastal Cloud and Lidar pile.
Not really a big concern I don't think. Even absent a relationship, the general standard is whether there would be a likelihood of confusion about the source of the goods or a general pawning off of the likeness of the appearance. While I don't doubt that Disney is a gorilla on these things, I...
